Hey I CAN read! A student came to see us and was most upset with his Mum because he didn't think he had any problems at school and his Mum was "controlling his life!" 😡Once inside the clinic, we noticed that he seemed bothered by the bright lights, so we switched them off and his immediate response was "Ah, that's better". So that confirmed his light-sensitivity. 😖During the assessment, he became aware that we understood how this can affect school life. He "opened up" about his reading experience: sore eyes, words move on the page and discomfort from white pages. When we placed the correctly coloured overlay over the words on the page, they stopped moving and he was able to read without discomfort. 🙂He walked out of the clinic with the biggest smile on his face because he now knew why words were moving and stopping him from being able to read. 1. **Training requires only two days.** ❌ FALSE! All Irlen practitioners are required to hold a University degree in Teaching, Education, or related fields. Irlen training is postgraduate training.

2. **Irlen Syndrome does not exist.** ❌ FALSE! It’s recognized on application forms for ADF, State Rail, Police, and various other Government agencies.

3. **There is no research on Irlen Syndrome.** ❌ FALSE! Many peer-reviewed research papers support the existence and understanding of Irlen Syndrome. Search in public databases.

4. **Optometrists not certified with the Irlen Institute can provide Irlen Spectral Filters.** ❌ FALSE! Only certified optometrists can provide the correct Irlen lenses. Be sure to ask for certification! 📄

From mom ‘Best photo I could get this morning of Eric in his new Irlen glasses. He is ‘too cool’ for mom now. He said he can tell a difference with the new color, and they really help!’

It’s so great to see children who suffer from Irlen Syndrome (visual processing disorder) reading as part of their everyday routine. Without the Irlen glasses text is blurry and wiggles on the page for Eric, no wonder he used to avoid reading. Glad he came back when recalled to the Krist Irlen Clinic (Houston/Galveston) to have his color checked. Growth spurts can change the brain and hence the Irlen color needed to calm the visual cortex.
