When I coach women who own healthcare practices, there is one thing I notice almost immediately.

➡️It is rarely skill that holds them back.

💡It is permission.

So many brilliant, capable clinicians are waiting for someone to say, “You are ready. You are good enough. You belong here.”

They downplay their accomplishments.

They apologize for success.

They make their sentences smaller, their tone softer, and their presence quieter, even when they have built something incredible.

If that sounds familiar, I want you to hear this:
You do not need permission to be confident!

Confidence is not arrogance. It is clarity.

It is the quiet steadiness that says, “I know what I do well, and I can help.”

In healthcare, that clarity builds trust faster than any brochure or title ever could. When you speak clearly about your value, your patients and your team feel safe. They feel your competence.

And here is the truth. Confidence does not come from being the loudest voice in the room. It comes from being the most grounded.

One of the best ways to find that grounded confidence is to prepare. Before your next meeting, networking event, or opportunity, write down three simple sentences:

1️⃣Who you help.
2️⃣How you help them.
3️⃣The result they can expect.

Then say it out loud…in front of your mirror.

You will be surprised how strong and certain you sound when you simply tell the truth about what you do.

Most women clinicians tell me the same thing when we start working together:

“I’m just not good at sales.”

And I always smile because they’re wrong.

If you can explain a care plan to a patient, calm an anxious family, or help someone make an informed decision, you are already great at sales.

You just learned to call it education.

Sales done well is not manipulation or pressure. It is clarity. It is teaching someone how their life or their patient’s care could be better with the right help.

That is why I tell healthcare practice owners:

👉 You do not need to become a marketer.

👉 You just need to communicate like the clinician you already are: clear, caring, and confident.

When you reframe marketing as education, everything changes:

✅Your nerves settle.
✅Your message sharpens.
✅And suddenly, growth feels natural again.

Mistakes Happen!

We all make mistakes. Even really bad mistakes. In a Just Culture, the goal is to respond in a way that is fair, consistent, and focused on learning, not blame.

The Just Culture Algorithm helps you decide if the situation was:

❓Human error (slip, lapse, mistake) → Console and remediate

❓At-risk behavior (shortcuts or risky decisions without bad intent) → Coach and improve processes

❓Reckless choice (conscious disregard for substantial risk) → Corrective action

To make this work in your practice:

🌟Start with the event, not the person.

🌟Identify the behavior type.

🌟Match your response to the behavior.

🌟Look closely at your systems and processes. Ask what broke that allowed the mistake, shortcuts, workarounds, or reckless choice to happen.

🌟Keep your decision-making consistent and transparent.

When you apply Just Culture well, you build trust, learn from mistakes, and strengthen your culture of safety and accountability.

The August through October grant cycle is now open, offering grants from $250 up to $5,000 to support community projects. These funds are limited and go quickly so it is worth applying early if you can.

The application process is simple and free. Just verify your nonprofit and submit your application through Walmart’s Spark Good platform for the Walmart location(s) serving your area.

While this isn’t a huge grant, it can be a helpful boost for your nonprofit’s projects and initiatives.
