Dr. Neil Evans, acting program executive director of the Electronic Health Record Modernization Integration Office, shared an update regarding VA’s Federal Electronic Health Record rollout,
highlighting major progress as the first 2026 deployments in Michigan approach. Thirteen sites will go live this year, with all VA locations planned to adopt the system by 2031.
In the update, Dr. Evans emphasized that the Federal EHR is performing well, operating incident free for more than 20 months, and exceeding reliability benchmarks.
In addition, VA has incorporated extensive staff feedback to improve training, standardize workflows, introduce system enhancements, and simplify communications through tools like the new “What’s In It For Me?” one pagers.
Dr. Evans noted strong support from senior VA leadership and the vital role of local teams in preparing for adoption, underscoring that this transformation is ultimately about improving outcomes for Veterans and supporting the workforce that serves them.
