Are you stuck? Do you feel like you can't break free? Are the same emotional hurts repeating again and again? Our body has the habit of forming habits, especially those based on experience and memory. This is somatic awareness: the awareness of feelings, habits, memories, emotions, and traumas trapped in and trapping our body's movement patterns [https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/what-is-somatic-therapy-202307072951]. Our mind can communicate with our body, through conscious awareness and intention, to process these somatics and instruct our body to perform different movements in an effort to release the trapped sensations. Our body moving through new patterns creates a new experience and feeling, releasing trapped sensations. Breathing can help release tension and relax our body to enable it to more confidently explore these new pathways. This is how Asana - the movement principle within yoga that integrates mind, body, and breath - taps into the somatic journey to free up health and wellbeing.
