Indigenous Filmmakers Spotlight Culture with Two New Films
Tsaile, Ariz. On Thursday, February 6, 2025, Diné College will host a screening of debut films by Indigenous filmmakers Shonie De La Rosa and Ryan Begay.
The event will celebrate Native culture through storytelling and include a Q&A discussion. During this discussion, the filmmakers will share insights about their work and the importance of representing Indigenous experiences in storytelling through an Indigenous lens. This event promises to engage film enthusiasts and community members in meaningful dialogue.
De La Rosa’s The Arrangement is an all-ages romantic comedy shot entirely in the Navajo Nation, featuring an all-Navajo cast and crew. As the first feature film produced predominantly in the Diné language, it highlights Navajo traditions through a humorous tale of unexpected romance.
Begay’s Honor Song explores Native American military service and shares personal stories of dedication and cultural identity. Both films underscore the talents of Indigenous creators and their commitment to preserving and sharing Native heritage.
