Chinle, AZ – Chinle Service Unit is reminding the community to take extra precautions and self-awareness to protect yourself, your family and your surroundings as our community is seeing an increase in Respiratory Virus illness. This includes the Influenza (Flu) virus which can spread quickly to others and can be life-threatening for certain age populations and health conditions. We encourage the community to read the self-awareness tips identified below.
Protect Yourself and Others
• Stay up to date on your vaccines. If you haven’t had your flu and/or COVID-19 vaccine since September 2025, it’s time to get vaccinated. All Individuals should consult with their healthcare provider to understand their options regarding vaccinations.
• Consider wearing a mask in indoor public spaces, especially crowded areas.
• Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your elbow.
• Wash or sanitize your hands often.

When You Might Need a Test
You may benefit from a flu test if you have flu symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, sore throat, body aches) AND:
• You are 65 years or older
• You are pregnant
• You have a chronic medical condition (such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or a weakened immune system)
• You are a child, under the age of 2
• You did not get a flu vaccine this year
Why?
People in these groups are at higher risk of getting very sick from flu and may be eligible for treatment. These treatments work best when started within 2 days of starting to feel sick.
