'Researchers at UCLA found that CBD, when given before fentanyl exposure in an animal model, is “as effective as naloxone at preventing opioid-induced respiratory depression.” Naloxone is currently the only approved medication for reversing opioid-induced apnea, but it can also trigger withdrawal symptoms and reverse pain relief.
In the study, mice were pretreated with either saline, vehicle, naloxone, CBD, or a combination of CBD and naloxone before receiving fentanyl. The team measured breathing rates and the time to opioid-induced persistent apnea, as well as the median lethal dose (LD50) of fentanyl.
Results showed that CBD alone significantly delayed apnea onset and raised the LD50 of fentanyl. When combined, CBD and naloxone increased the LD50 even further than either treatment on its own.
“CBD may be an effective preventative therapy for OIPA by increasing the time before apnea onset and potentially enhancing the efficacy of naloxone as an additional strategy to save lives,” the authors concluded.
The findings highlight CBD’s potential role in overdose prevention, though further research is needed to determine whether these results translate to humans.'
Folks, we all know that CBD is made in OUR BRAIN.. We NEED it.. When all the researchers and doctors, and... pharmaceutical places have the backbone to tell the whole truth, we will ALL be healthier. Visit The CBD Connection, .Net online, or in Chino Valley, Arizona.
