🫒 Let me explain something I think more people should know.
You've probably seen the word "bioactive" on skincare labels lately. But what does it actually mean — and why does it matter?
Here's the simplest way I can explain it.

There's a difference between eating a fresh orange and taking a vitamin C tablet. Both contain vitamin C. But the fresh orange delivers it in a form your body immediately recognizes and absorbs. The tablet requires more processing — by the time your body uses it, something has been lost in translation.
Bioactive skincare works the same way. The ingredients are as close to their natural source as possible. Your skin recognizes them. It doesn't have to work to figure out what to do with them. It just responds.

🌿 Someone asked me this week about the benefits of massage therapy — and I loved the question so much I wanted to give it a proper answer. Most people think of massage as a treat, a splurge. Something you do on vacation or for a special occasion. But as both a Nurse and Licensed Massage Therapist, I want to gently reframe that. Massage therapy is one of the most well-researched, evidence-supported tools we have for maintaining whole-body health. And most of us are significantly underusing it. Here’s what regular massage therapy actually does for your body:
🧠 Regulates the nervous system — massage activates the parasympathetic nervous system — your rest and digest response — helping your body genuinely down-regulate after chronic stress. This is the foundation of almost every other benefit.

🌿 Something I want to share about the BioMat — and why it changed how I work. When I invested in the professional grade BioMat, I knew the research was compelling. Far infrared heat. Negative ions. Amethyst and tourmaline crystals embedded throughout the mat. An FDA-registered medical device with real science behind it. But what I didn’t fully anticipate was what I would feel under my own hands. As a Licensed Massage Therapist I work with muscle tissue. and I can tell you from clinical experience — there is a noticeable, tangible difference in how muscles respond when they have been warmed by far infrared heat before and during a session vs. traditional heated pad.
Conventional heat warms the surface. Far infrared heat penetrates differently — reaching deep into the tissue, the fascia, the spaces where tension actually lives. 🌿 Something I've been thinking about lately — cortisol

I've been doing my own deep dive into cortisol recently, partly as a healthcare provider and partly as someone who lives in the same busy, overstimulated world as everyone else. As well as someone that has a few extra pounds (yup- cortisol affects that too)
Cortisol is your body's primary stress hormone. In the right amounts it's essential — it helps you wake up in the morning, respond to challenges, and keep moving. But chronically elevated cortisol? That's where things get complicated.
Sustained high cortisol has been linked to disrupted sleep, increased inflammation, immune suppression, mood instability, fatigue, and changes in how the body stores and processes energy. Most of us are walking around with levels that are higher than they should be — and we've just normalized feeling that way.

Here's what I'm personally doing about it — and what I'd encourage you to consider too:
💆‍♀️ Massage therapy — research shows regular massage meaningfully lowers cortisol while raising serotonin and dopamine. This isn't just relaxation. It's a physiological shift.
🚶‍♀️ Walking — simple, accessible, and genuinely powerful. Even a 20-30 minute walk outside has been shown to reduce cortisol and regulate the nervous system. I come back from walks clearer every single time.
🌿 Ashwagandha — an adaptogenic herb I take personally. Adaptogens help the body respond to stress more efficiently. Ashwagandha specifically has solid research behind its ability to reduce cortisol levels over time. As always, check with your provider before adding any supplement.
The through line in all of this? Your nervous system needs consistent, intentional support — not just an occasional treat. These aren't luxuries. They're maintenance.

🌿 A little about how I work — and why
I want to share something that sits at the heart of everything I do at Moon Rising Massage.
Healing does not have to be aggressive to be effective.
I know that might surprise some people. We live in a culture that celebrates pushing through — harder, faster, more intense. Even in wellness. There's a belief that if it doesn't hurt, it isn't working.
I respectfully disagree. 💜
As both a Nurse Practitioner and Licensed Massage Therapist I have seen what happens when the body finally feels safe enough to let go. When the nervous system stops bracing. When someone stops white-knuckling their way through a session and actually — finally — rests.
That's where the real healing happens.
My sessions are not about pushing through. They are about slowing down, dropping in, and creating the conditions your body has been waiting for. Gentle, intentional, whole-person care that honors not just your muscles — but your mind, your soul, and your spirit.
