Blood Bank of Delmarva is a non-profit community service organization that provides blood and blood products to 19 hospitals on the Delmarva Peninsula. More than 79,000 blood donations are needed in this area each year for about 20,000 patients across the Delmarva Peninsula. Blood Bank of Delmarva merged with New York Blood Center Enterprise (NYBCe) in August 2019. From recipient to donor, Jeff's story comes full circle ❤️

Sussex County farmer Jeff Allen knows firsthand the power of blood donation. After receiving multiple transfusions during his battles with leukemia and lymphoma, Jeff has spent years giving back by hosting the "Could B U" Blood Drive.

But this time was different. At last week's drive, Jeff didn’t just help organize and recruit—he rolled up his sleeve and donated for the first time in nearly 10 years. After a successful bone marrow transplant and years in remission, Jeff recently became eligible to donate again, and he didn’t hesitate to give back.

“It is better to give than receive… I couldn’t donate for so long, but now that I can, I will continue to give. It could be you at any point in your life. I’m a prime example.”

Thank you, Jeff, for leading by example and reminding us all why donating blood matters.

The inaugural “In Memory of Jess Garrison” Blood Drive brought the community together in a powerful way, collecting 61 units of lifesaving blood!

Held just before the one-year anniversary of Jess’s passing from acute myeloid leukemia, the drive honored her life and legacy. During her battle, she relied on countless blood transfusions, all made possible by generous donors.

“Jess touched so many lives and will always be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help others,” said Jess' wife Richelle. “By hosting this drive, we honor her incredible spirit by helping others.”

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and helped make this meaningful event possible. 💙

🎭❤️ Join us in giving a standing ovation to Cab Calloway School of the Arts! Their Spring Blood Drive brought in an incredible 28 units of blood — enough to save up to 84 lives 👏

This drive was truly student-powered. Members of the National Honor Society stepped up to organize the drive, recruit donors, and maintain the refreshment area.

Junior Sophia Hannah was not just a coordinator at this drive, but also a first-time donor. “If I’m asking other students to donate… why not me? My blood could help save three lives. It’s an amazing thing to do.”

Senior Marcos Salvador-Riera also stopped by to make his third donation. “As donors age out of the system, we need young donors to step up.”

During our January Ocean City Blood Drive, Miss Barb, one of our longtime volunteers, spent some time showing Madison, one of our newest blood collection technicians, the donor waiting and screening area. Volunteers like Barb don't just assist with donors, they exude the care, knowledge, and welcoming spirit of BBD.

Our volunteers play a huge role in creating a wonderful experience for donors and in shaping our team culture. They help donors feel comfortable, keep everything running smoothly, and support our staff every step of the way. We are so grateful for volunteers like Miss Barb who make our mission possible.
