The Saint Mark's HS Fall Semester Blood Drive was another incredible success! The Spartans rolled up their sleeves and lived up to tradition, collecting 52 lifesaving units during last week's blood drive!

“My brother always donated when he was at Saint Mark’s,” said student and Executive Officer Cassidy, a first-time donor. “He convinced me to do it — and I’m glad I did.”

President Patrick Tiernan also joined the cause, leading by example as he donated blood among students. “Giving blood is the easiest, life-giving gift to make. It aligns with faith, excellence, humility, and integrity — and it’s a fun, engaging way to give back.”

👏 A huge thank-you to the students, staff, and volunteers who made this blood drive a success. Your dedication helps ensure that patients in need always have the blood they depend on.

"Volunteers are essential! They recruit donors, improve the donor experience, and support staff. For example, volunteers clean donation chairs between donors so staff can stay focused on the blood collection process. Donors consistently give our volunteers five-star ratings for their kindness and care."

In honor of International Volunteer Managers Day, we sat down with Angela Williamson, our Community Relations Volunteer Specialist, to learn more about her career journey and passion for volunteerism.

Why does Andrea give? "I try to donate pretty regularly. I'm O-negative and know there's a huge need."

O-negative is often called the universal blood type because it can be given to anyone in an emergency when there’s no time to check blood type. As a special thank you to our O-negative donors, we're giving away a cozy knit scarf now until December 31st. Make sure to register first! delmarvablood.org/lifesaver/

All throughout October, our team showed their support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by dressing in pink — a small but powerful way to honor survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and stand with everyone affected by breast cancer. 🎗️

At Blood Bank of Delmarva, we see every day how blood and platelet donations help patients undergoing cancer treatments. When we wear pink, it’s not just for awareness, it’s for action.

Happy Halloween from our family to yours (and a very happy final day of Spirit Week!)

The need for blood doesn’t take a holiday, and that’s why giving during times like Halloween is so important. Hospitals still rely on a steady supply of blood to help patients every single day — and your donation makes that possible!

Team spirit was on full display today, and the participation was nothing short of outstanding! Our staff showed up proudly representing their favorite teams — from Philadelphia Eagles to Baltimore Orioles and Baltimore Ravens. We even spotted a few Dallas Cowboys fans in the mix.

A big thank-you to everyone who joined in and filled our offices with team pride and some healthy competition 😉

“My daughter, Peyton, is alive today because of the quick actions of New Castle County Government paramedics, Delaware State Police, and local firefighters following a devastating car crash,” said Amy Harter.

Stories like Peyton’s remind us why blood donors and first responders are true heroes, and the lifesaving power of in-field transfusion programs.
