“Shalene helped me achieve my dream birth, and I am so thankful! After an emergency c-section during the height of the Covid pandemic, I quickly knew that I wanted my next birth to be a VBAC and have the support of a doula. I researched and interviewed many doulas in the area before choosing Shalene. Her experience and knowledge is unparalleled. In the months leading up to the birth, my husband and I reviewed her many videos and materials to prepare for the birth. Even as second-time parents, we found these materials incredibly helpful as we prepared for our baby’s arrival and wrote our birth plan. As questions arose, we reached out to Shalene who was always quick to respond and share her perspective. Throughout our preparations, Shalene asked us questions to get to our why and better understand our goals for this birth. This really helped us narrow in on our goals and expectations for this birth.

When I went into labor in the middle of the night, Shalene immediately responded to my texts and called to help me labor at home through the early stages. When it was time to get to the hospital, she met us there, ready to help me through my unmedicated labor. She provided a calming presence, and physically helped me work through contractions. She used counter pressure on my hips and rubbed my back. She helped me advocate for myself with medical staff and helped guide my husband in his support of me. Throughout labor and pushing, she coached me through breathing, changing positions, and listening to my body. At the toughest points of my labor and delivery, she was a reassuring and comforting voice helping me to persist. In the end, I achieved my goal of an unmedicated VBAC, and Shalene was a big part of that.

My husband was skeptical of my desire to have a doula for fear that it would take his place as my support person. Afterwards, he was blown away by our experience with Shalene, and now thinks that doulas should be standard for every birth!”

Doula Spotlight: Meet Kimberly! She has been married for 19 years and a mom for 16. She homeschools her 4 kids plus her nephew. She teaches art at her co-op, loves her indoor plants and outdoor flowers, and enjoys weightlifting, traveling, and going camping. She became a certified birth doula 6 years ago, after being a support person for a few friends’ traumatic births. This sparked her passion to be there for moms and dads during the biggest moment of their lives!
She’s committed to coaching moms to be  as comfortable as possible and equipping dads to be the best support their wife needs. She also has a heart to empower moms to be able to have (as close as safely possible) the birth they desire.

Welcome Cassandra Doan!!

Cassandra is a wife, mother of 2 girls, doula and childbirth educator. She will soon be offering in person Childbirth Education classes to complement our online Childbirth Education. She has been supporting families through pregnancy and birth since 2023.

She is passionate about helping women make informed decisions they feel confident in and have satisfying, empowering birth experiences. She is thankful to be joining Rhythm of Birth and to be a part of this amazing team of women!

Welcome Alice McGowan!

Alice is a wife, mother of 2, and doula. She has been supporting couples during birth since 2023.

She is excited to be part of Rhythm of Birth and is currently working on her Postpartum Doula Training and will soon be offering services to help families with newborn care and lactation support.
