Not every mental health need requires a hospital stay — but some people may need more support than a traditional outpatient appointment can provide.

The Genesis Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program, The Point Navigate Wellness, offers structured mental health support while allowing patients to continue living at home.

Intensive outpatient care may be helpful for adults who are working through depression, anxiety, grief, emotional stress, or other mental health challenges and need a more guided level of care.

The program focuses on support, coping skills, connection, and helping patients move forward one step at a time.

To learn more about The Point Navigate Wellness at Acadia St. Landry Hospital, call us or speak with your healthcare provider about whether intensive outpatient support may be the right fit.

This month, we’re celebrating two members of our therapy team whose work helps patients communicate, connect, eat safely, and gain confidence in everyday life.

May is Speech-Language Pathologist Month, and at Acadia St. Landry Hospital and The Point Pediatric Therapy, that means celebrating Jeanne DeJean and Theresa Doucet.

Speech-language pathology is about more than speech. It can mean helping a child communicate their needs, supporting feeding and swallowing skills, building confidence, or helping an adult patient regain independence after illness, injury, or a hospital stay.

At The Point Pediatric Therapy, Jeanne and Theresa work with children and families through the little victories that lead to big milestones. Jean also serves our adult patients in Swing Bed, helping them work toward recovery, safer swallowing, stronger communication, and a safe return home.

Their work is patient, practical, and personal — and it makes a real difference in the lives of the people we serve.

Thank you, Jeanne and Theresa, for the care, skill, and steady support you bring to our patients and families. Happy Speech-Language Pathologist Month!

Last week, Acadia St. Landry Hospital staff and our partners from Genesis Behavioral Hospital participated in active shooter training led by Church Point Chief of Police Dale Thibodeaux.

Emergency preparedness is not always easy to talk about, but it is an important part of caring for our patients, supporting our staff, and protecting the people who come through our doors each day. Training like this gives our team the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and better understand how to respond in a high-stress situation.

We are grateful to Dale for sharing his time and knowledge with us, and to the Church Point Police Department for their continued partnership and commitment to the safety of our hospital and community.

Thank you for helping us stay prepared, aware, and focused on the people we serve.

Mental health care often starts with a conversation. Morgan Thomas, PMHNP-BC, provides behavioral health care at Fleur de Lis Rural Health Clinic, helping patients who may be dealing with concerns such as anxiety, depression, mood changes, stress, or other mental health needs.

Having access to mental health care in a local clinic setting can make it easier for patients to ask questions, talk through concerns, and receive support without having to travel far from home.

Mental health is health — and seeking care is a strong and important step.

Morgan Thomas, PMHNP-BC, is accepting patients at Fleur de Lis Rural Health Clinic. Call the clinic at 337.684.0127 to learn more or ask your primary care provider if behavioral health care may be right for you.

2026 Employee of the Year: George Ardoin, RN, ASN

This week, we are highlighting the three major award recipients recognized during our Rooted in Care awards ceremony. Today, we are proud to recognize our 2026 Employee of the Year, George Ardoin, RN, ASN.

George has been a nurse for 18 years and has spent the last 12 years serving patients at Acadia St. Landry Hospital. As an ER nurse, George is part of the team patients and families count on during some of their most stressful moments.

The Emergency Department takes a special kind of person. It requires quick thinking, steady hands, patience, teamwork, and the ability to stay calm when things around you are moving fast. George brings all of that to his role, along with years of experience and a clear commitment to caring for the people of this community.

George was nominated by a fellow nurse who recognized his compassion and the way he cares for patients. When that recognition comes from someone working beside you, it says a lot. His coworkers see the patience he shows, the respect he gives, and the difference he makes during difficult moments.

Garrett Higginbotham, Director of Nursing, shared, “George has earned the respect of his coworkers through the way he carries himself and the way he cares for others. In the ER, every shift is different, and George brings a steady, thoughtful approach to whatever comes through the door. He is experienced, compassionate, and committed to doing right by his patients and his team. This recognition is very well deserved.”

Outside of work, George enjoys traveling and spending time with his kids. He also plays the accordion, which feels fitting for someone who brings a little rhythm, personality, and Louisiana flavor to the team.

George’s recognition as Employee of the Year comes from the way he shows up for his patients, his coworkers, and Acadia St. Landry Hospital. He is dependable, experienced, and committed to the work of caring for others.

Please join us in congratulating George Ardoin, RN, ASN, our 2026 Employee of the Year.

DAISY Award Honoree: Mary Hayes, ASN, RN

This week, we are highlighting the three major award recipients recognized during our Rooted in Care awards ceremony. Today, we are proud to recognize our DAISY Award honoree, Mary Hayes, ASN, RN.

The DAISY Foundation DAISY Award recognizes nurses who go above and beyond in the care they provide to patients and families. It honors the compassion, skill, and dedication that nurses bring to the bedside every day.
Mary has been part of Acadia St. Landry Hospital for 11 years and serves as a Charge Nurse on the Day Shift. With more than a decade on the front lines of care, she brings experience, energy, and unmistakable joy to every shift.

Before joining ASLH, Mary spent 14 years as a night nurse, making her role here her very first day job in nursing. She embraced the change and quickly became a steady presence for patients, staff, and families.
Mary says one of the things she enjoys most is meeting new people, seeing new faces, and working with different personalities and departments. That fits her well. She brings a kind of positivity that people notice, but she also brings the work ethic to back it up.

In addition to her full-time role at ASLH, Mary also works PRN in behavioral health and IV infusion therapy. Her reason is simple: she loves being a nurse.

Garrett Higginbotham, Director of Nursing, shared, “Mary is the kind of nurse who brings both skill and heart to the bedside. She is dependable, positive, and committed to her patients. As a Charge Nurse, she helps support her team while making sure patients and families feel cared for. We are proud to see her recognized as our DAISY Award honoree.”

Mary’s advice to those starting out in healthcare says a lot about who she is: take pride in your work, do your job well, and remember that the real reward comes from patients and their families.

That mindset shows in the way Mary cares. She understands that nursing is not only about what you do, but how you make people feel while they are in your care.

Outside of work, Mary loves traveling with her husband and spending time with her grandchildren. She proudly claims the title of Best Grandma Ever, and with six grandchildren and two more on the way, she has plenty of reason to do so.

Mary Hayes is a strong example of Small Town, Big Care. She shows up, works hard, supports her team, and cares for patients with purpose.

Please join us in congratulating Mary Hayes, ASN, RN, on this well-deserved DAISY Award recognition.

BEE Award Winner: Anita Bellard, Patient Services Representative

This week, we are highlighting the three major award recipients recognized during our Rooted in Care awards ceremony. We are starting with our BEE Award recipient, Anita Bellard.

The BEE Award recognizes team members outside of nursing who go above and beyond in supporting patients, coworkers, and the care experience. These are the team members who may not be at the bedside, but whose work still has a big impact on the way people feel when they come through our doors.

Anita has been part of Acadia St. Landry Hospital for almost five years. In her role, she is often one of the first people patients meet. She helps with questions, check-ins, paperwork, and the many front-end details that help a visit move smoothly.

But Anita’s work is more than a process. It is the way she does it.

She says she tries to make each patient’s experience as pleasant as possible. She does that by treating each person as if they are her only concern while they are with her. That kind of attention matters, especially when someone may be nervous, unsure, or simply trying to get through a busy day.

Anita also brings that same care to her coworkers. One of the things she loves most about working here is the relationships she has built with her team and the fun they have together. That shows. A good team behind the desk helps create a better experience for everyone in front of it.

Anita’s supervisor, Travis Deshotel, shared, “Anita is a true asset to our team. She is dependable, kind, and always willing to help wherever she is needed. She makes patients feel welcome and supported, and she brings a positive attitude to the people she works with every day. We are proud to see her recognized with the BEE Award.”

Outside of work, Anita enjoys being outdoors, working in her yard, spending time with family and friends, and trying different local restaurants. If she could give one piece of advice to someone new to healthcare, it would be simple: treat people with kindness and love what you do.

For Anita, receiving the BEE Award is a reminder that her efforts are noticed. And they are. Her kindness, patience, and steady presence help make Small Town, Big Care feel real for the people we serve.

Please join us in congratulating Anita Bellard on this well-deserved recognition.
