Although he is not a Smithson by birth, Micah Bray has grown up with the Smithson family. After he left the Marines, he started working at Magnum Radiology and learning the trade. Micah currently leads install and deinstall work and also handles local service calls and assists with the inventory at the shop. In his spare time, Micah spends time with his parents, many brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews as well as practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and firearm training.

As the oldest Smithson son, Kent Smithson has grown up deinstalling imaging systems. As an adult, he helped start Magnum Radiology with his dad and brother. Kent spends a lot of time on the road overseeing deinstalls, installs and service work. He also helps get our videos finalized, troubleshoots parts repair problems, and is passionate about learning all he can on the systems we work on. When he is home, Kent enjoys restoring cars and is an avid gun enthusiast and collector.

Are you getting the maximum Return on Investment from your radiology equipment? Here are some simple tips to make sure you are getting the biggest bang for your buck.

* Research and talk to someone who is knowledgeable before you buy. You don’t always need all the bells and whistles
* If you need to finance the equipment, compare the options. Leasing and rental can be alternative choices that are better for your bottom line.
* Just because someone – even the OEM – tells you your system is end of life, doesn’t mean it’s true. Get a second opinion.
* Get regular PMs for your system. Most manufacturers recommend two per year.

Usually when people see Radiology technicians it is not under the best of circumstances. When I had to get a CT scan to confirm if the cancer I had just been diagnosed with was outside of the affected area, I was on edge, nervous, unsure of the future. My scan had to be with contrast so I wasn’t feeling well after ingesting it.

However, the tech did everything in her power to explain what was happening and to make me feel more comfortable. The room was clean and orderly, and the technician was warm and friendly. Her job is to scan many patients a day, but she made me feel like I was the only one, like she was there for me. - Patty, Magnum Radiology

Kurt Smithson is a modality specialist who has been learning about and working in the imaging industry since his teens. He and his brother Kent followed in their father’s footsteps by helping get Magnum Radiology launched. Kurt plays electric guitar in Mud Creek, a rock band who is hoping to have a new album out in the next year, and plays concerts throughout the Midwest. Before starting Magnum, Kurt was a certified welder. At Magnum, Kurt focuses on parts repair and local service. He is our technology expert and oversees equipment coming and going from the shop.
