The Power of a Sewing Machine and Generations of Love
We learn to love through family as well as the people in our lives. Love does not always come naturally and can be expressed differently by each person. We influence each generation’s behavior with the choices we make; i.e., where do we spend our time?
Jane spends some time each week volunteering at Birthright helping clients who are in unplanned pregnancies and are looking for help. Jane is a mother and grandmother. Her daughter and granddaughter have watched that witness over the years and share those core values. Her granddaughter, Reagan, a senior in high school has always been pro-life. Over the past year, Reagan has stepped up her pro-life witness by creating a club at her high school called Westfield Students for Life. One day, Reagan saw her grandmother wearing a stylish (Covid) mask. She asked where she got it and was told a Birthright volunteer named Dori made it. Reagan had been involved in fundraising for the club and decided the masks would make a great fundraiser for Birthright. Dori offered her expertise and time and made a Ziploc bag full of beautiful masks for Reagan to sell. Reagan sold them for $5 or 3/$9. The mask fundraiser was a success . . . raising $72 for Birthright!
Each act of service makes a ripple of love into the lives of others. It makes the world a better place, even one stitch at a time. We are thankful to all who shared their time, talent, and treasure to make this fundraiser a success. Imagine what our world would look like if everyone did just one act of service each day!
