With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Susan Jean Murphy, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born September 16, 1942, in Bluffton, Indiana, to Roy and Nina Mayer, Susan shared 60 years of marriage with her husband, Michael Murphy, building a life centered on love, faith, and family; together they raised two daughters. She was a devoted grandmothe, finding great joy in supporting and celebrating their lives. Susan had a gift for creating meaningful traditions and lasting memories, from holiday celebrations to everyday moments, and she extended that same care to others through her volunteer work. A dedicated member of the United Methodist Church, she lived out her faith through service, compassion, and advocacy.

Susan Neiling, 68, of Arcadia, Indiana, passed away on April 4, 2026, in Indianapolis; she was born February 3, 1958, in Lima, Ohio, to Dick and Jackie Versprille. A 1976 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, she shared 33 loving years with her husband, Tony Neiling, while raising their family, running an in-home daycare, and later creating a cherished cookie-and-balloon business; she also enjoyed playing games but treasured time with her grandchildren most. Known for her generous heart and deep faith, Sue supported her community, attended Arcadia Church of the Brethren, and found comfort in the belief she would one day reunite with her Savior and her husband.

Margy Marie Spurgeon, a beloved resident of Arcadia, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 28 at the age of 94. Born on December 25, 1931, to Cleo and Isabelle Law, she was one of six children and later married the love of her life, Walter Earl Spurgeon, with whom she shared 45 devoted years until his passing in 1995. Throughout her life, Margy was dedicated to serving others, working alongside her husband at Earl’s Electric Shop, contributing many years to Weight Watchers, and volunteering faithfully at Angels’ Attic for nearly 25 years.

Shirley Ann Bales, 93, passed away on February 23, 2026. Born November 10, 1932, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Leonard Jr. and Esther Allmeroth, she was known for her loving heart, generosity, and joyful spirit.

Shirley devoted 24 years to the Indianapolis Star News, 10 years to Methodist Health Systems, and 11 years working alongside Dr. Glen Leer, DO. She loved football, sewing, painting, and crafting, and she especially cherished hosting Christmas each year. A true lover of music and dance, Shirley found great joy dancing with her husband and bringing laughter to those around her.

We are honored to take care Elwin Shull and his family in their time of loss. Elwin was born April 23, 1931 and passed away February 23, 2026. A third-generation Seventh-day Adventist, he devoted his life to education and faithful church service.

In retirement, Elwin worked as a historical interpreter at Conner Prairie and he also directed the correspondence Bible school for the Indiana Conference of Seventh-day Adventists for over 20 years, as well as continuing part-time work at the Indiana Adventist Book Center into his 90s.

She found joy in gardening, painting, crafting, reading, and traveling to the beaches of the Carolinas. Above all, she cherished time with her beloved grandchildren, Sebastian and Bridget Kellams. Her unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, guided her life and will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
