April 11th–17th is Black Maternal Health Week, a time to raise awareness, listen, and support safer, more equitable birth experiences.
Advocating for yourself during pregnancy can mean asking questions, speaking up about symptoms, bringing someone you trust to appointments, and making sure your concerns are heard and taken seriously.
This matters. Research shows that Black mothers experience life-threatening pregnancy complications at roughly twice the rate of white mothers in some U.S. communities.
Everyone deserves to feel heard, respected, and supported throughout pregnancy and birth.
One way families strengthen their support system is by bringing a doula into their care team. Doulas can help you ask questions, understand your options, and advocate for your needs alongside your medical providers.
At Nurture, our doulas work collaboratively with healthcare teams to help families feel informed, supported, and empowered throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Want someone in the room who advocates for you during birth? Connect with one of our doulas.
