Always thrilled to return to Dubai, and honored to be invited to speak at the Emirates International Gastroenterology and Hepatology Conference (EIGHC 2025 ) in collaboration with the American College of Gastroenterology ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ชโœจ Thank you Dr. Vivek Kaul for the invitation ๐Ÿ™Œ

Grateful for the opportunity to share two sessions:
โœจ Optimal Positioning of Therapies in IBD
โœจ Healthcare Maintenance in IBD

An exceptional meeting, very thoughtfully organized, forward-looking, and filled with colleagues committed to elevating GI care across the region.

Only in Dubai for 1 night, but biggest highlights ๐Ÿ’ซ were spending time with two extraordinary women:

๐Ÿ’ซ Dr. Heba Al-Farhan: President of the Kuwait Gastroenterology & Hepatology Association. Truly an inspiring force for GI in the region and globally.

๐Ÿ’ซ Dr. Sara El Ouali: Thank you for the warm hospitality and a beautiful evening. Fantastic work on elevating IBD care in the region. Dinner was amazing, but the company and conversation were even better!! ๐Ÿค

Always grateful for the connections, the learning, and the community.

Until next time, Dubai. โœจ

A few weeks ago, I traveled to beautiful Portugal to celebrate 50 years of Gastroenterology in Porto. Deep gratitude to Professor Guilherme Macedo for the invitation and for his remarkable leadership. The conference theme, โ€œA Day in Our Lives โ€“ A Journey Through Modern GI,โ€ perfectly reflected how far our field has come.

I was thrilled to share my talk on positioning first-line advanced therapies in IBD, and even more grateful to celebrate Professor Macedoโ€™s milestone with some of my closest friends and colleagues. Moments like these remind me how special our truly is. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น

I held this post until now because the celebrations were meant to continue in NYC this weekend for the birthday of my dear friend, Professor Susana Lopes. Sadly, flight cancellations had other plans.

Even from afar - Happiest of Birthdays, Susana! Iโ€™m so grateful for your friendship. Hereโ€™s to celebrating together soon โค๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰

I am deeply honored to share that I have joined the Board of Directors of

Ascend: Leadership Through Athletics, an extraordinary women-led organization that empowers young women and girls in Afghanistan with the tools to lead, thrive, and shape their futures.

Ascendโ€™s trauma-informed program provides girls with safe spaces to learn, grow, rebuild confidence, cultivate resilience, and discover their leadership through athletics, mental wellbeing, education, and community service.

As an Afghan American, former refugee, and immigrant who fled Afghanistan as a child, this work carries profound meaning for me. My own journey, from navigating displacement to becoming a physician executive leader, reminds me every day of what becomes possible when communities invest in girls.

We are closing out the year at a time when Afghan girls need us more than ever.

If you believe in the power of education, leadership, safety, resilience, and representation, I invite you to stand with us.

โœจ Your end-of-year donation has impact far beyond funding.

It tells these young women: We see you. We believe in you. You matter.

Marina LeGree - Thank you for your vision and leadership and congratulations on 10 years of Ascend

Last week, I had the privilege of serving as an invited international speaker and faculty in Antalya, Turkey ๐Ÿ‡น๐Ÿ‡ท for the 42nd National Gastroenterology Week.

This weekend, Iโ€™m reflecting on an inspiring time with global โ€” education, connection, and sisterhood. Together we grow, elevate our field, and expand our worldwide impact.

Our IBD community lost a true giant and I lost a dear colleague, mentor, and friend.

Dr. Brian Feagan was one of the most significant contributors to IBD science, yet also one of the most humble, generous, and genuine people I have ever known. He had no interest in the academic snobbery that often fills our field. He led with kindness, curiosity, authenticity, and a wit and humor that brought laughter even in the toughest moments.

I learned so much from him, especially about how to conduct rigorous, meaningful clinical trials; and we worked collaboratively to improve IBD education nationally. Brian always made time to listen, advise, encourage, and acknowledge others. He supported so many of us quietly and without judgment, reminding me often to focus on what truly matters and let go of the noise.

His impact on IBD will shape the field for generations, and his impact on those fortunate enough to know him is immeasurable.

I will miss him dearly. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
May his memory be a blessing, and may we honor him by carrying forward the humility, integrity, and humanity he embodied.

Rest in peace, Brian ๐Ÿ’œ

Last night, I had the honor to receive the Bing Hinton Legacy Award from the Crohnโ€™s & Colitis Foundation - an organization thatโ€™s been part of my journey since 2007.

This award isnโ€™t just about me, itโ€™s about us:
Our patients, who inspire every step.
Our incredible IBD team, who bring compassion and excellence every day.
My colleagues and friends at UC Health and UC College of Medicine, who stood beside me in support.
And to my husband, family and friends, who keep me grounded.

Legacy isnโ€™t about age or status - itโ€™s about impact.

Itโ€™s about how we lead, serve, and lift others as we climb.

Together, weโ€™ll keep pushing forward, because the work continues, and our shared legacy is still being written. ๐Ÿ’™
