Good Monday Morning. Lots of folks are getting ready to get to work and perhaps looking at the week as stressful. In stressful situations, cortisol created in the adrenal gland and released during stressful situations, is released. Cortisol helps to restore balance in the body. When stress is reduced the cortisol levels are reduced ready to be available for the next stressful situation.

For example, when we see a bear in the woods, while hiking, our cortisol levels go up allowing us to get into a fight or flight mode. When the bear moves away cortisol levels go down and we relax (as much as possible after seeing a bear in the woods). Unfortunately when our stress level remain high, cortisol levels also remain high keeping us at a high level of arousal.

Inhaling a blend of Rosemary and Lavender for 5 minutes will help decrease cortisol levels. Put three drops of each on a cotton ball and inhale for several minutes when you are feeling stress. Put the cotton ball in baggie for use during the day. HAVE A GREAT WEEK.

CAUTION: Do not use Rosemary if you have high blood pressure. Increase drops of lavender and eliminate rosemary.

HAVE AN ANXIOUS DOG? RUBBING LAVENDER ON HIS OR HER PAWS WILL HELP CALM AND RELAX HIM. CAUTION: NEVER USE ESSENTIAL OILS ON CATS. THEIR METABOLISM IS DIFFERENT AND ESSENTIAL OILS CAN BE HARMFUL. EVEN DIFFUSING AROUND CATS CAN BE HARMFUL. ALWAYS DIFFUSE IN A WELL VENTILATED, OPEN SPACE. HAVE A GREAT SUNDAY.

A fun essential oil fact: Did you know that putting oil on the soles of your feet allows the oil to be absorbed more quickly? Don't believe it? Crush a small clove of garlic, put it on the floor of your shower and stand on it while showering. You will soon begin to taste garlic! So...using essential oils on the soles of the feet is a quick way to get it into your body. BE AWARE: Some oils are very hot and should not be used neat (that is without a carrier oil) on the skin. Always check before using neat.

Stuffy nose or head?? Put two or three drops of eucalyptus essential oil on a damp washcloth and place it in the corner of your shower, close but not under the shower head. The steam will diffuse the oil and may relieve some of the stuffiness. At the end of your shower wash chest with the washcloth. Essential oils do not cure but will relieve symptoms of certain inflictions. Please do not ingest oils without the approval of your physician.

Good Morning Oil Lovers. My granddaughter Maddie had a very bad case of the flu last week and it got me to thinking about antiviral oils. Antiviral is something that is able to inhibit, stop, develop or further the replication of infection causing viruses. A couple of oils for your "bag of tricks" include:
lemon, cinnamon, clary sage, helichrysum, tea tree and clove.
Please don't use these "neat" that is put them on the skin without a carrier oil. Some like cinnamon and clove are "hot" and can cause burning. However, you can diffuse them in an open area. A drop or two in a diffuser during the day can help keep viruses to a minimum. Remember as far as oils go "less is more". Also, oils are not a cure for disease and should not be ingested unless recommended or approved by your doctor.
