A very happy Olympic and Paralympic Day to my favorite athletes and the staffs that support them! 🇺🇸

Today we celebrate excellence, friendship, respect, determination, courage and equality through sport.

Here are some snapshots from the 2024 Games in Paris. I’m getting excited to watch the Milano-Cortina Winter Games and looking forward to working with our hopefuls at UC tomorrow morning!

Grateful for the incredible women athletes and staff I’ve had the privilege to work with - and grateful for those who came before me to pave the way for girls and women in sports 🤍 many awesome women I’ve worked with the past year not pictured in the above - mainly because we get so focused we forget to document - grateful nonetheless!

Looking forward to seeing many women in sports I look up to next week at CSM!

Happy National Girls & Women in Sports Day! Let’s keep girls in the game!

Took a trip to Athens yesterday to teach middle and high school coaches, teachers and administrators about inclusive and adaptive sport!

I’ve enjoyed being on the advisory council for the Government Resource Center’s Inclusive Sports Project, funded by a grant from the Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council. The goal of the project is to develop resources for the implementation of inclusive sports in school systems to see it increases the participation of students with disabilities.

One of my fellow advisory members is a talented Special Olympics athlete. He had never used a racing chair before so he tried it out after the training. He crushed it!

Thank you for sharing the equipment for this training!

Starting competitive adaptive athletics at the University of Cincinnati was on my list of crazy dreams, and thanks to an incredible group of people - and you - that dream is a reality.

Today is Giving Tuesday, and while there are many great organizations out there, I hope you’ll consider donating to Adaptive Athletics so we can continue to grow and improve the experience of disabled student athletes.

Today is also International Day of Persons with Disabilities. I celebrated by teaching the next generation of physical therapists and athletic trainers how to provide high-quality,person-centered, inclusive care. My students had practical exams in one of my courses and some of the cases were focused on injured adaptive athletes - they did great!

How will you celebrate? Links to donate to UC Adaptive Athletics and are in my bio.

Yesterday I was giving a lecture to medical students and one of them asked how my path took me to the Paralympic Games.

And as I was sharing my journey and got to Jim Murdock, my throat got a big lump in it and I had to pause. I barely got out:

“He made my dream come true.”

I sent Jim a random email on my way to volunteer at Quad Nations in 2019 and ‘Can I meet with you?” has turned into one of the most influential relationships in my life.

To know Jim is to love him. I doubt there are many people more generous than Jim. He is loyal and understanding and wants to learn. He’s been my biggest advocate and supporter. He’s been an incredible mentor and colleague. More than anything, he cares about the PEOPLE he works with. He’s helped be come a better clinician and person.

He’s quite literally pioneered athletic training for adaptive athletes.

As I reflect on the Games, I certainly am filled with gratitude for Jim.

I hope everyone has a Jim Murdock in their career and life - and I hope I can be a Jim for someone else.

Healthcare providers want to take away people’s pain. It’s a big part of what we do.

Watching those you care for experience pain and not being able to make it better is really hard.

Especially when you know
how hard they worked,
how much they’ve sacrificed,
what they’ve been through as a team,
and what they’ve been through as individuals.

But what you can do is tell them
that you love them,
for more than just being an athlete.
And are proud of them,
for more than just earning a medal.
And thank them for trusting you and bringing you so much joy.

Supporting in earning a Silver Medal has been one of the biggest honors of my life 🙏🏻🇺🇸

Thanks to friends and family near and far who cheered on this team for the last week. I hope you’ve become fans for life- there’s still many Team USA medals to be won here in Paris and beyond!

It’s that time of year!

Please consider signing up for the Cincinnati Dragons 5K and Mile Race on August 24th at 9:00am at Rentschler Forest Metro Park!

The race includes a wheelchair and handcycle division and multiple age groups, and proceeds benefit the Greater Cincinnati Adapted Sport Club, the nonprofit that funds the Dragons. Your race fee will help cover travel expenses, equipment, and more so that everyone has a chance to play.

The Dragons are close to my heart, and though I’ll be at the Paralympics and unable to attend, I’m still eager to support the group that first got me started in adaptive sports. Hope you can make it!

Mark swam for the first time in 3 years today!

Prior to his hemorrhagic stroke and brain tumor, Mark was an avid swimmer. He swam laps for 2 miles, 3x/week! While today may not have looked quite the same as before, Mark still loved being back in the water. It was pretty special to be a part of.

We did forward and backward walking, floating, and started working on backstroke.

We also talked about para swimming, and I *might* have convinced Mark to set a goal to compete in a meet within the next year. While I’m not much of a swimmer, I think I’m about to be!

A big, sincere thank you to my colleague , the Director of Sports Medicine & Performance for , for presenting our lecture on managing the care of adaptive athletes at the 75th Annual Clinical Symposium & Expo! He was an absolutely pleasure to work with and I really enjoyed learning more about the work he does!

As opportunities for people with disability continue to grow and more people get in the arena, it is VITAL to prepare athletic trainers to work with these athletes. Grateful that James has the same passion as me and that he was able to get more ATs excited about caring for this population!

If you’re an athletic trainer working with or interested in working with adaptive and para athletes, shoot me a message! We’d love to get a create a network of clinical ATs to support athletes!

Congratulations to the on a successful season! It was a big year of growth for the organization after graduating a strong class last year.

Varsity solidified its spot at 25th in the nation and prep earned 15th during the Junior Nationals this weekend.

Additionally, three Dragons were recognized for their academic achievements - one was also all tournament Second team! And two of our young women earned All First team!

Looking forward to supporting the team in the off season and seeing how these young athletes continue to grow! 🔥🐉🏀
