It was great to see some familiar faces at the IV Nutrient Infusion event. I would like to share some things we discussed regarding MAGNESIUM

Magnesium is the 4th most abundant mineral in the body and is involved in more than 300 enzymatic reactions in our body.
In the brain, Magnesium ions are the “gate keepers” and prevent excessive excitation in our neurons.
This is important as too much excitatory neurotransmission can lead to inflammation and cell damage.
Research shows that too much excitatory neurotransmission has been implicated in many neurological and psychiatric disorders, including:
• Migraine
• Chronic pain
• Epilepsy
• Alzheimer’s
• Parkinson’s
• Stroke
• Depression
• Anxiety

Magnesium has significant neuroprotective effects in humans and is an important factor in the prevention or treatment of the above conditions.

The Recommended Dietary Allowance, or RDA, of magnesium for adults is 400 to 420 milligrams per day for men, and 310 to 320 milligrams per day for women.

The important sources of magnesium are:
• Dark leafy green
• Nuts and seeds
• Dark chocolate
• Yogurt
• Avocados
• Fish
• Beans
• Whole grains
• Bananas
• Legumes
• And more…

I recommend incorporating magnesium rich foods in your diet. There are certain situations where taking a supplement will be helpful. Its best to do it under the supervision of your provider.
