There's a wealth of information surrounding pregnancy hormones.. but what about hormones (specifically HRT) IN pregnancy?

HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) is commonly used in Transgender and Gender Diverse folx, and many believe that the use of Testosterone for example will cause infertility. This is NOT true! While testosterone therapy has been shown to alter the composition of the ovaries, resulting in lesser likelihood of pregnancy, this does not mean it is impossible or that contraceptives are not necessary.

Additionally, it's important to note that even if no periods occur while on Testosterone therapy - pregnancy is still very possible. Even without the typical symptoms, ovulation may still take place irregularly.

So... now what?
First and foremost, always contact your prescriber for any health condition changes such as pregnancy. They will have you pause hormone therapy, as it is considered teratogenic (may cause birth defects) to a developing fetus. The timeline for re-introducing HRT will vary family to family, and include factors like healing and whether or not the parent will be chestfeeding.

Symptoms include:
💢 Intense anger and irritability
💢 Frequent shouting or cursing
💢 Aggressive thoughts or behavior
💢 Mood swings
💢 Sleep disturbances
& even paranoia or anxiety

Yes, postpartum rage is real. No, it does not mean that there’s a better parent out there for your baby than you.

If you wouldn’t say it about someone else, don’t say it to yourself either! At the end of the day you’re a person just like everyone else who deserves to be treated with respect.

If you wouldn’t say “Sam looks so big in those jeans”, don’t say “I look so big in these jeans” either! When a thought pops up, personify yourself by using your name instead of ‘I’ to remind yourself that you’re just a person doing their best 🦋

Guess who should feel guilty about not loving every moment of pregnancy? 🦗🦗🦗 Nobody!

Navigating nausea, bodily changes, shifts in home life, etc can be overwhelming and missing what used to be your normal does not mean you’re a bad parent or don’t love your baby.

As multifaceted human beings, two very different experiences and feelings can coexist. You can grieve your precious life, and still look forward to your new journey as a family. Be patient with yourself during this and every season!

September is an important month in mental health care, and is named Su***de Prevention Month. It’s about more than just awareness, and begins with steps we can all take!

On a large scale, su***de prevention includes affordable housing and access to health care, mental health services, adequate nutrition, etc but on a smaller scale we can all play a part in reducing the su***de rates.

Decrease the stigma, talk openly about mental health in companies you’re safe and comfortable with, ask open ended questions when you’re concerned and direct loved ones to support when needed, and mostly — check on the strong friends who check on you!

While our natural instincts to Fight, Flight, or Freeze may be necessary in some situations.. trying to call your doctor’s office to make an appointment isn’t usually one of them.

When unregulated, instinct mode can kick in when it isn’t needed. This mindset makes choices based on scarcity thinking, and can be rash based on perceived danger. These evolutionary survival tools can be prompted by everyday triggers, and for some can feel unmanageable or even impossible to break free of. Try some of the relief points for each response next time you’re feeling unsafe in a safe environment!

Boys (and bois!) will be … allowed to be soft!

And to express emotions,
To feel fear,
To experience disappointment,
To cry,
To vocalize their needs,
And to be loved and safe while doing it!

Masculinity and emotional maturity, sensitivity, or vulnerability don’t have to be opposites. Create an open space and dialogue where people of all gender expressions and presentations can explore their feelings!

Deciding to begin or expand a family isn’t usually a decision that’s made lightly, and this period of transformation should be surrounded entirely by unconditional support and encouragement. But what often happens, is that birthing people and parents lose their individual goals and needs to live up to their new title.

I don’t believe that’s a fair (or necessary) trade.
