Diesel exhaust is more than an operational byproduct—it’s a documented health risk inside the firehouse. In a five-year longitudinal study of U.S. career firefighters, researchers observed lung-function declines two to four times greater than expected for normal aging, suggesting that occupational exposures, including diesel exhaust, may contribute to accelerated respiratory health impacts over time.
Reducing that exposure starts at the source. Source-capture exhaust removal systems connect directly at the tailpipe, helping prevent harmful gases and fine particulate matter from spreading throughout apparatus bays and into living spaces. Supporting clean air inside the station is an important part of protecting long-term firefighter health.
