When Ashley Zinn came in to Bethesda North Hospital, she was anticipating an uneventful delivery of her first son. What she got instead were complications leading to life-saving measures by her medical team and a days-long stint on the ECMO machine, which helps support struggling heart and lung function.
Now that she's recovered and back on her feet, Ashley is determined to share the gift of life she received from her care team with others by finishing nursing school, now rounding on Bethesda North's ECMO floor with the very same people who saved her life.
"There wasn't a question in my mind of 'Do I come back here?'" Ashley said about returning to Bethesda North, this time not as a patient, but as a nurse. "It's when... when can I get back in here?"
