TAP Health TAP Health is a program founded to seek out “untapped” and talented high school students by encouraging their entry into a career in medicine and healthcare

The Health Collaborative works with hospitals and health care providers to expose regional students to health care careers to ensure an adequate and competent Tristate workforce. TAP students tapped into their critical thinking skills to tackle yesterday’s Hack-A-Thon hosted by the VA! 🧠

Each team was given a problem in healthcare and came up with their own innovative solution. With the help of mentors from previous TAP Health events, students brainstormed, collaborated, and developed their solution strategies then pitched them to a panel of judges. Each group brought their own twist to the competition and created an amazing product.

Thank you to the VA and their team for setting up this innovative event for the first time in TAP program history!

The time has finally come… Graduation!! 🎓
The TAP Students celebrated their completion of the program by recalling all their favorite events and memories. Parents came to congratulate their students and learn about the locations we explored throughout the summer!

Thank you so much to our host HCESC - Hamilton County Educational Service Center, our wonderful organizer Heleena McKinney, and all our sponsors from the summer who dedicated their time and resources to this program.

Though it’s tough to say goodbye, the fun doesn’t end here! Friday’s bonus event, a Hack-A-Thon!, and a live surgery in early August will bring the students together again. For now, thank you to all the students and parents for seeking out this program and being a memorable group to work with!

Last week the TAP students got to learn about a vital piece of the healthcare puzzle: mental health.

The host location, Resurge Recovery, is an outpatient facility offering individual and group counseling as well as medication-assisted treatment plans for a variety of mental health concerns. Students learned about the mind-body connection and how different recovery centers address mental health needs in their communities.

Thank you so much to CEO Bradly Hale for connecting with each student on how mental health works hand in hand with the career paths they are considering. Thank you aswell to the team at Resurge Recivery for welcoming us into your space!

As the TAP program comes to its final event before graduation, students visited the Health Collaborative building for donuts, donations, and workshops.

Students met with presenters from Network for Hope to learn about their Donate Life organ donation program. This organization helps organ donors save and enhance the lives of their recipients.

Next students attended a Stop-the-Bleed course hosted by UC Health where they learned to use tourniquets, pack wounds, and protect vascular systems in an emergency.

Thank you so much to all of our workshop presenters including UC Health and Donate Life Ohio for making today’s event happen!

What’s green and seen all over? The Hamilton County Health Department! This organization has a hand in so many community facilities from swimming pools, to restaurants, to schools. They oversee mosquito surveillance, bike lanes, disease tracking, waste management, and so much more!

The TAP students toured the facility, solved a mystery disease case, and got to hear from multiple speakers including health commissioner Greg Kesterman.

Thank you so much to Christa Hyson and the team at Hamilton County Public Health for putting on this wonderful event!

Today the TAP Health students were back out in the community visiting their 4th university of the summer: Mount Saint Joseph!

Here the students learned what it takes to be a Physician Assistant (PA) and got to try their hand at a few different PA skills. Students from the MSJ PA program provided one on one lessons in suturing and airway management, then hosted a Q and A panel about the steps to become a PA. The day came complete with a campus tour, gift raffle, and special guest 2019 TAP Health alimni Leah Rupp who is now a student in the PA program! Will one of the 2025 students follow in her footsteps?

Thank you so much to Mount St. Joseph University and their PA program students and staff for putting on such an excellent event!

There’s been an explosion💥…. a simulated one!

Under the guidance of EMS program chair Shawn Stacy at Cincinnati State, the TAP Health students learned valuable EMT and paramedic skills to face the disaster simulation head-on. Students transported and triaged patients, packing wounds and stablizing key joints as they went. This simulation was an incredible, interactive look into the lives of our first responding healthcare workers.

Thank you so much to Shawn Stacy and Cincinnati State Technical and Community College for putting on this crowd favorite event!

MD week concluded with an exciting visit to UC’s Medical Center for an inside look at trauma and emergency medicine!

Students toured ambulances and helipads while learning the procedures and tools used to save lives every day. Getting to visit a Level 1 trauma center gave the students a peek at many trauma based health careers including military emergency care and care beyond the United States.

Thank you so much to UC Health for this incredible learning experience!
