Each month, we continue to highlight initiatives happening in the region as they correspond to our region's Collective Health Agenda (CHA), the action-oriented report that details the specifics of what our medical community is doing in the three priority healthcare issues of Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention, Mental Health Treatment, and Housing Stability. Today we focus on the Hamilton County 513Relief Bus, a mobile resource center funded by Hamilton County that brings health, social, and economic services directly into communities! The team at UC Health serves as the premier medical partner to the bus, providing staffing and logistical support throughout its annual run from late February-November (providing over 1000+ screenings in FY’25). Through this partnership, UC Health is empowering healthier communities through mobile care, trusted partnerships, and inclusive outreach.

The bus’s focus on Cardiovascular Health, (providing blood pressure, glucose, and cholesterol screenings), delivers on the commitment to improve our region’s heart health challenges. The 513Relief Bus also works to chip away at both Mental Health and Housing Stability challenges due to how team members provide customized social wrap-around services and other varied healthcare offerings depending on what community members need most. A fantastic initiative.

Our latest is none other than the incredible Lisa Sladeck! Lisa is retiring soon and we wanted to make sure we caught up with her before she leaves. She has always been a tremendous asset to The Health Collaborative and all partners!

Q1: In your time here, what did you work on that kept you most excited?
Events! They gave me the opportunity to meet a lot of great people, especially our members. I also enjoyed working on projects, with Nicci Weber on the Ellequate process, and meeting all the staff members during my tenure.

Q2: We heard you are getting ready to retire soon! What are some of your favorite activities outside of work and what are you most excited to do when you retire?
Doing nothing at first – decompress! Then, being able to spend more time at my pool during the summer, and working on puzzles through the winter! I also love gardening, and even watching snow fall.

Q3: Where did you grow up, and what brought you to your current city?
I was born in Richmond, Virginia. My family moved to Ohio in 1961 so my dad could help build a church in Deer Park, Ohio. Deer Park is where I grew up and went to school, and I remained there until I was married. I moved to Indiana in 2005 and love it here!

Q4: If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
Any country that has old historical churches. I watch Rick Steve’s travel shows all the time and am amazed by how beautiful the churches are and how they built them without any machinery.

I also love exploring Virginia where I was born because it has a ton of history. Some of the places I’ve been to are Luray Caverns, Bunker Hill, Monticello, and Mount Vernon. I love history!

Q5: What is a fun fact about you that may surprise people?
I was the hula hoop champion of my neighborhood!

Q6: What is your favorite food?
Shrimp (non-fried) and cedar plank salmon!

We wish you wonderful days ahead, Lisa, full of all your favorite things!

Last week our 2025 TAP Health Summer Academy (THSA) had another Post-Summer Event when we visited Atrium Medical Center! Our students went to Middletown to explore everything there is about Neurology - from the anatomy of a brain, to stroke research and assessments, CT diagnosis and more! The students also got to visit the emergency department, the rehabilitation unit, had the opportunity to see what telemedicine looks like first-hand, and engaged with several fantastic clinicians including Elizabeth Gilbert, MSN, APRN who guided our day, as well as Dr. Bradley Jacobs, and Dr. Bryan Ludwig.

This was a phenomenal day! We appreciate everyone at who took the time to show our students what it entails to receive first class neuro care from the moment a patient enters. We also thank Mikaa Veal, for all her planning and organization.

If you are or know of any high school students who might want to try out a THSA event before applying to be in the full program next summer, we have another opportunity coming up! You can join our 2025 THSA students on Friday, October 10 from 9am-Noon. If interested, please contact us at: workforceinnovation@healthcollab.org and we will send you more info!

Even though our 2025 TAP Health Summer Academy (THSA) is over, our THSA students occasionally have Post-Summer events to explore places we learned about over the summer, or to fit in events that needed to be rescheduled. These events are automatically open to our previous THSA class of students and we sometimes allow other high school students to join us too. Last week was one of those opportunities, as THSA visited The Well!

The Well is a non-profit organization that provides programs, practices & connection at the intersection of Arts and Wellness, for schools, workplaces & communities. We loved getting to see their gorgeous space, but even more so we loved getting to learn how they help organizations around the country (including some Ohio hospitals!) incorporate mindful moments and practices into their spaces. With mental health being a top concern for any healthcare professional and their patients, this event held many layers. THSA students were even invited to do a mini workshop of exercises to help prepare better study and life habits for the workplace and academic success.

We truly appreciate The Well opening their doors to us. To learn more about how they can help your healthcare organization, school or other groups and places of business, visit: thewell.world .world

And if you are or know of any students who might want to try out a THSA event before applying to the program next year, we have another opportunity coming up for students to join us on Friday, October 10. Please contact us right away at: workforceinnovation@healthcollab.org and we will send you more info!

Sharing information across systems of care is a universal challenge facing behavioral health providers. This challenge affects providers, community partners and patients - and it can lead to ineffective care, duplication or gaps in service, and outdated information in medical charts.

Earlier this year, we announced we are recipients of the Millstone Grant to support our Mental and Behavioral Health Data Exchange Project. This funding has allowed us to continue the work of our partners at Cincinnati Children’s who are working with several community behavioral health organizations on the first of its kind behavioral health patient attribution strategy! This innovative strategy is designed to create more cross-system visibility into treatment relationships, and to provide access to clinically-actionable population health data.

Our work now is focused on driving not only sustainable impact, but the opportunity to scale from pediatric to adult facilities. Convening with our hospital members and leveraging the relationships we have across the region will allow us to see this scale come to life.

This work is directly in service of the Collective Health Agenda, our action plan for tackling the region's priority healthcare challenges. To learn more, visit: healthcollab.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/SWOhio_CollectiveHealthAgenda_Final.pdf
