Guess who we found highlighted in the Joint Commission's May newsletter? None other than Mercy Health's Kim Obermeyer! Kim Obermeyer has been a great partner during the Hospital Accreditation Committee Meetings held in our region, with one of our team members calling Kim "an absolute rockstar in this realm". We're happy to add our own thanks to her for her extensive knowledge, and are not surprised to see her nationally recognized.

DirectConnect 2026 was held at the Sabin Auditorium and led by Cincinnati Children's - with lots of support from THC! provides a forum for small, local, and underrepresented business to connect and learn, hearing perspective from leaders on how they can set themselves up for success.

The event opened with remarks from several individuals including Evie Alessendrini, Chief Operating Officer of Cincinnati Children's and our own Chief Engagement Officer, Tiffany Mattingly. In addition to wonderful sessions, a compelling keynote speaker, and time for networking and idea-sharing, our VP of Operations, Jill Collet, moderated a supplier innovation conversation with Cincinnati Children's leaders Nick Archer, Jennifer O"Neal Harris, and Dave Theus. The event was overall a tremendous success - congrats to Cincinnati Children's Jennifer O'Neal Harris and our own Alisa Lambert for making it happen.

Did you know the UC Health Trauma & Burn Center at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center is the region’s verified Adult Level I Trauma Center, and the only verified burn center in Greater Cincinnati?

Our Emergency Preparedness & Response team helped develop the critical Regional Burn Surge Annex in 2021. This month, Norton Children’s Hospital in Kentucky will host a trauma burn tabletop exercise, inviting UCMC and Cincinnati Children’s to participate. The Tri-State Disaster Preparedness Coalition (TSDPC) will also participate as a player, evaluating the current plan and procedures. The exercise will help ensure facilities and staff in our region are prepared for a pediatric burn surge.

This is just one example of the essential work happening collaboratively behind the scenes to keep our communities prepared for the unexpected.

Honoring the life and legacy of Liz Bonis 💙

A trusted voice in health reporting, Liz dedicated her career to informing and uplifting our community. Through her work at Local 12 and collaborations with healthcare leaders like our own Tiffany Mattingly, she brought clarity, compassion, and purpose to every story—from public health updates to advocacy for lifesaving initiatives like the Pink Eraser Project.

Her impact will continue to be felt across Cincinnati and beyond. She will be deeply missed.

Nursing, Medical Assisting, Radiologic Technology, and Surgical Technology fields are the most in-demand gaps in the healthcare workforce. So last year, we launched employer-led, occupation-specific workgroups across the most in-demand gaps bringing employers and educators together to address these critical workforce shortages. These groups are identifying and removing barriers to accessing and completing healthcare credentials as well as securing/advancing employment. As it's National Nurses Week, we couldn't think of a better time to send a huge thanks to the leaders from our Nursing Workgroup Chairs:

- Kristen Bagnall, DNP, RN, CMSRN, GERO-BC Interim Manager, Career Development | Senior Corporate Education Specialist TriHealth
- Kelly Zurba, PHR Manager, Talent Acquisition at Children's Hospital

And Happy to all the wonderful nurses in our medical community - thank you for all you do!

Today marks the final day of Tiara Carter’s internship with The Health Collaborative! Over the past few months, Tiara supported our Community Health team by helping capture stories and feedback on how the Community Health Agenda is being carried out across Greater Cincinnati. We asked her to reflect on her experience and what’s next.

Tell us about yourself and what brought you to THC.
Hi everyone! I’m a graduating senior at the University of Cincinnati majoring in Public Health, with a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and certificates in Minority Health and Global Health Studies. I was drawn to THC because of its focus on diverse health and social service priorities.

What projects did you work on during your time?
I worked on writing stories with internal and external partners related to CHNA priority topics, helped draft an advocacy framework, and created a CHI day‑by‑day calendar of topics and stories. My favorite project was the advocacy framework - it was a new area for me and sparked a stronger interest in advocacy as a career.

How do you see community health show up in Greater Cincinnati?
I see it most clearly through THC's collaboration efforts. I engaged with data, helped create materials, and observed how organizations use assessments to guide real decisions. What stands out most is how this work isn't just theoretical; it directly informs real strategies and brings different partners to the table, creating alignment around shared priorities like health equity and access to care.

How has this internship influenced your future goals?
All of the work felt meaningful and relevant. There was no “busy work", it all held vitality. I was given space and encouraged to take initiative on projects and the experience and connections I made expanded my interest in alternative career fields.

What’s next for you?
I’m heading back to Youngstown, Ohio to spend time with family and decompress! Afterward, I'm moving to Michigan to pursue my MSW at the University of Michigan.

Any dream roles?
I’m currently interested in becoming a licensed clinical social worker or a certified doula, but only time will tell!

We'll miss you, Tiara - thank you!

This week, our Infectious Disease Action Group convened regional hospital Employee Health teams to advance measles preparedness and employee immunity documentation.

The group focused on employee immunity documentation, exposure response processes, and the critical role Employee Health teams play in verifying immunization status and managing workforce restrictions. Together, we identified gaps, shared best practices, and explored opportunities for stronger regional alignment.

🔹 Reminder: This group meets quarterly to collaborate, problem-solve, and proactively prepare for emerging regional needs.
