My approach is shaped by my ministry work, experience in treating anxiety, depression, and trauma. I use various treatment modalities to customize your counseling experience, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotional Freedom Techniques, Mindfulness Meditation, Brainspotting, and Imago Relationship Therapy. I feel great joy while working with my clients and seeing their lives transform from our initial meeting. There is no doubt in my mind that I was purposed to be a counselor.

Getting Unstuck by Nona Jones

Today's session by Nona Jones is The Power of Strategic Thinking. She said that disciplining the way you think is more important than disciplining the way you plan. She shared the steps to her process of strategic thinking and said that it is essential to take time for yourself to think strategically.

1. State your goal at the top of the paper. You should describe it because a clearly defined goal will lend itself to a clearly defined strategy.

2. Look back. You can learn a lot when you look back. You inventory your experiences over the last quarter, six months, or a year. You can also identify your MIRN: Most Important Right Now

3. Conduct a detailed assessment. Reflect on your progress toward your goals. Plan your next step and give it a timeframe.

4. Stipulate the Intended Outcome. Clearly state what success looks like for you. Set some SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, relational, and timing.

5. Make time for spiritual development, as this will refuel your being, and it's a time of recalibration.

Nona, also shared her take on networking. She prefers what she calls net weaving—having the mindset of how I can serve rather than what is in it for me. You are shifting to an investment mindset instead of withdrawing.

Today's session by Nona Jones is How to Reclaim Your Time.

Reclaiming your time can be a significant gift that you can give to yourself. When you identify the time leeches in your life, you can begin to eliminate the things that are no longer serving you and exhausting your resources.

Nona said that overcommitment creates more stress than success, so we have to shift our mindset away from believing that the more we do, or the more people we help, the more successful we become.

She said that one of the keys to reclaiming time is determining the difference between what is important and what is a priority.

Today’s session by Nona Jones is Building the Power to Release Yourself. Basically, she said that there are three things we sometimes hold onto that cause us to feel stuck.

1. Guilt. The message associated with guilt is, “I made a mistake.” This message can make us feel stuck because we find it difficult to release it.
2. Shame. The message associated with shame is, “I am a mistake.” Often, we think that we are not good enough or worthy enough, and these feelings can keep us feeling stuck.
3. Bitterness. Bitterness is an internal emotion that can cause people to feel stuck.

Nona said that these three things can only live where they are allowed. She said the work is about breaking the lease agreement with these things. To break the lease agreement for guilt, she said you need to make the wrong right if you wronged somebody. You have a conversation to make a mistake right if there is a misunderstanding to clarify things.

When it comes to shame, she said it’s about releasing yourself from the identity of your past and embracing what you’re building for the future. Focus on what you are doing to improve yourself; you’re trying to be better.

As far as bitterness, she said that there’s no check large enough to pay the bitterness debt. In other words, no amount of money or a powerful enough apology can remove the debt of bitterness. She said that bitterness is a choice.

She ended the session by saying to stop looking over the fence and stop comparing yourself with others. God purposed you, and there is only one of you.

What came to me is that when we keep our minds stayed on him, we can experience a piece that you can’t even explain to people. When we lock in with God, He will help us release and let go of the bitterness, hurt, and pain.

The reflection for this week is to think about who you are using as your measuring stick/competition. Who are you measuring yourself up against that is causing you to feel stuck? What do you need to do to focus on God’s promises and what God’s word says about you as a child of God?

Session One - Getting To The Heart of Feeling Stuck

Nona Jones said that being stuck is a state of heart, more of a feeling than a circumstance or a fault in planning. She explained that goal planning is not always enough. Maybe you achieved what you planned, but your expectations of how you wanted to feel weren't met. So her question is, what void are you trying to fill?

Her challenge is to go deeper, reflect on your goals, and ask yourself, "What is my true motive for achieving this goal?" My addition is to try to use all of your five senses to really define your why. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

My prayer for all of us is that we receive the insight and revelation that we need to truly experience moving forward. Be blessed.
