St. Marianne Cope

Marianne Cope was a religious sister in the 1800 and 1900s and is known for her caring for leprosy patients, establishing hospitals, schools, and homes for the afflicted on Maui and Moloka, Hawaii. Before going to Hawaii, she founded the first public hospital in Syracuse, NY.

She is the patron saint of outcasts and those with leprosy and HIV/AIDS. Her life is a model of grace, service, kindness, and love.

Glory to you, Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ. You called your servant, St. Marianne, to her heavenly reward. Awaken in us the ways that we can help those who are suffering and teach us to be grateful for having the opportunity to serve others

St. Agnes, Virgin and Martyr

Agnes consecrated herself to Christ, refusing numerous noble suitors, which angered them and led to her denouncement.

Accused of being a Christian, she faced trials, including being sent to a brothel, but divine intervention (miraculous hair growth, blinding light) protected her purity.
Legends describe her hair covering her body and flames failing to consume her, leading to her beheading as the final act.

Her name sounds like the Latin agnus (lamb), making her a symbol of gentle sacrifice and purity, often shown with a lamb.

On her feast day two lambs are blessed in Rome for their wool, used to make the Pope's palliums for archbishops.

Patronage:
Chastity, purity, gardeners, girls, Girl Scouts, engaged couples, and victims of r**e.

Legacy:
She is one of the seven women mentioned in the Roman Canon (Eucharistic Prayer I) of the Mass, signifying her importance in the early Church.

Constantine's daughter later built a basilica over her tomb in Rome

Respect Life

“…[L]et the light of that glory shine so brightly that everyone may come to recognize the inestimable value of all human life. Even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.” Pope Francis
