Why do we celebrate Black History Month ? Because we are not that far removed from U.S.A.’s founding history that created disparities of equal access to education, employment , and basic human rights.

Happy Black History Month!

Celebrating excellence in education - Richard Humphreys (1750-1832).

Richard Humphreys was a Quaker. He was
sent to Philadelphia, PA, from the British
Virgin Islands. He later became
a successful silversmith.

At his death in 1832, he left an estate of over
$90,000, $10,000 of which he donated to
start a school for youth of African descent.
It is now known as the Cheyney University
of Pennsylvania, becoming the 1st HBCU.

If you’re struggling with anxiety…Let it all play out.

Oftentimes we get stuck trying to overanalyze, predict, control the outcome with our anxiety that we cleverly try to disguise as problem-solving.

The truth with anxiety is, many times the buildup to a situation is a million times worse than the actual anxiety of just being in the moment. So much so that when you get to the moment, you realize that there’s nothing to really big happening. So then you’ve wasted sleep, time and precious moments by worrying and dreading about something that will almost never happen.

So my dear, just take a mindful pause.

Take a deep breath. Breathe my dear. Breathe.

Let it all play out.

What is su***de?
Whew! Deep breath. Su***de is a permanent outcome often linked to untreated mental health conditions like depression.

Suicidal ideation can vary from passive thoughts of death, like I would be okay if I just didn’t wake up tomorrow.

It can also look like self harm or active thoughts of su***de with a plan to take one’s own life.

While, I know this is a difficult topic, it’s important to discuss it openly so we can break the stigma, the stronghold of depression and su***de, and save lives.

Let’s pause for a moment, I’m going to share some statistics about su***de.

Who do you think has the highest su***de rates?

Do you think more men or women?

According to the research, women attempt more, but men complete more, because men typically use more lethal methods.

According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control)
- over 49,000 people died by su***de in 2022
- 1 death every 11 minutes
- Many adults think about su***de or attempt su***de. According to this same research study by the CDC, 13.2 million seriously thought about su***de.
