Today is National Simplicity Day.
That's it.
End of post.
Okay, just kidding - we do have a little bit more to say. Today's celebration honors the birthday of Henry David Thoreau, the influential writer and thinker who embraced the power of living simply at Walden Pond (which is about a half hour drive from the Life is Good office here in Boston).
Here at Life is Good, we call Simplicity a Superpower - and for a very important reason. Of all the messages we've shared over our 30+ years, "Keep It Simple" has been one of the most constant and the most fundamental. Maybe that's because of the fact that it's always relevant - there's always so much to do, so much to think about. No matter if it's 1994 or 2025, the simple act of recentering yourself with this little reminder can have such an outsized impact.
And while keeping it simple is, in many ways, about doing less, that doesn't mean living a small, empty life. Rather the opposite, actually - it means stripping away the extra stressors and distractions to live the fullest, most fulfilling life you can. To put it in Thoreau's wise words:
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
Happy , everyone. Your woods are out there, too, if you go looking. 🌲
