So excited to announce Lunar Birthing Services is officially a part of the Safe Space Alliance! Safe Space Alliance is a non profit dedicated to helping people identify, navigate, and create safe spaces for LGBTQI+ people worldwide! Safe Space Alliance allows businesses to apply to list themselves on their site as a LGBTQI+ safe space, creating a resource so that people can look through the registry to find businesses that will support them. As a member of the LGBTQI+ community myself, it is super important to me to serve my community. 🌟 Exciting News for New/Expecting Moms! 🌟

CareSource has introduced a fantastic initiative called Mom's Meals! 🍽️ This program is designed to provide new moms who have just delivered with 28 free meals. The options are diverse, ranging from heart-healthy choices to diabetes-friendly and vegetarian meals. Moms must be My Care/DSNP members. (Medicaid members see update note below)

Here's how it works:
1️⃣ New moms can reach out to their care manager to sign up after delivery.
2️⃣ If you don't have a care manager, no worries! You can contact Member Services at 1-800-488-0134 to enroll in the program.

It's a wonderful way to support our moms during this special time. Let's spread the word and make sure all eligible individuals benefit from this fantastic initiative! 🤰💖

The smell of your newborn baby and breastfeeding both help you produce the hormone oxytocin, which signals your body to start the afterbirth contractions! And gravity never hurt in aiding birth 😉

Babies can take the first breath within about 10 seconds after birth. And in some cases, as you can see in this beautiful image, babies can start to make an effort to take their first breath as soon as their head is born due to their central nervous system reacting to the sudden change in temperature and environment.(👈🏽THIS CHANGE IS WHAT TRIGGERS YOUR BABY TO START TRANSITIONING TO LIFE OUTSIDE OF THE WOMB)

Once the baby takes the first breath, a number of changes occur in the infant's lungs and circulatory system:

❤️Increased oxygen in the lungs causes a decrease in blood flow resistance to the lungs.
❤️Blood flow resistance of the baby's blood vessels also increases.
❤️Fluid drains or is absorbed from the respiratory system.
❤️The lungs inflate and begin working on their own, moving oxygen into the bloodstream and removing carbon dioxide by breathing out (exhalation).

“Repeat after me...nursing to sleep is normal.

It is not a sleep crutch (what even is a sleep crutch...a phrase sleep trainers made up?).

It is not a rod for your own back.

It is not a source of guilt or shame.

Human infants are the most immature social mammal when they’re born. They’re attachment instincts, their biology and physiology are powerful drivers to make them try to keep us close. Why?

Because they believe their survival depends on it because they don’t know they were born in 2021 when we have central heating and locking doors and formula, as opposed to the Pleistocene.

But even if they knew all those things, they would still choose YOU. Because YOU are the only way they can thrive. YOU cannot be replaced by modern-day mother replacements (which abound on baby lists!).

They’re in love with you. You are quite literally their safe place. Their secure base. You are their world.

And something tells me you wouldn’t choose separation either. Because you’re a social mammal too. Because you’ve experienced the magic of nursing your baby to sleep. Of shared moments at 3am when you feel like you’re the only two awake in the world. You’re the only two that know one another in this way.

And you’re not just “getting your baby to sleep” - sure sleep is a byproduct but what you’re really doing is co-regulating your infant as she finds sleeps, you’re showing her that the world is a safe place, you’re showing her she can trust you, you’re showing her that she matters, that her needs matter, you’re wiring her brain for secure attachment.

So, mama...stop googling “is it ok to breastfeed my baby to sleep?” and instead celebrate it. Celebrate yourself and the choice you’re making. The gift you’re giving your baby and your relationship. She may forget the details but she will never forget how you made her feel.”

Delaying cord clamping for 2-3 minutes, or until the cord stops pulsating, has so many benefits to your baby! Delaying cord clamping increases your baby’s hemoglobin and iron stores for the first several months of live, which can significantly improve their development!

⚡️This is what waiting 60 seconds to clamp the looks like. There’s still so much oxygen rich blood that was pumping from the placenta to the baby.

🔥 60 seconds is not true delayed cord clamping.

When there’s no medical necessity for separating baby from the placenta prior to the cord stopping it’s pulse, clamping should not occur before the cord turns white.
