Flat foot

👣As a podiatric surgeon, I specialize in treating various foot and ankle conditions, including flat feet. Flat feet, or pes planus, is a condition where the arch of the foot is low or absent, causing the foot to contact the ground completely. This can lead to pain, swelling, and difficulty walking or standing. Flat feet can also affect the alignment of the legs and spine, causing other problems.

👣Flat feet can be congenital or acquired due to factors such as injury, aging, obesity, or arthritis. Depending on the severity and cause of the condition, flat feet can be treated with conservative methods such as orthotics, 💊medication, and physical therapy. However, some cases may require surgical intervention to correct the underlying deformity and restore the arch.

👣Flat foot surgery involves repairing the ligaments, tendons, and bones that support the arch of the foot. There are different types of flat foot surgery, depending on the specific anatomy and symptoms of each patient. Some common procedures are medial displacement calcaneal osteotomy, lateral column lengthening, modified triple arthrodesis, and flexor digitorum longus transfer. The goal of flat foot surgery is to provide pain relief, improve function, and enhance appearance.

The latter occurs when plaque builds up in the arteries that carry blood from your heart to your legs and feet (peripheral arteries). The plaque buildup stiffens and narrows your peripheral arteries, making it difficult for blood to reach your feet in sufficient quantities.
