I was sedentary, I ate and drank too much, I kept gaining weight, and my blood pressure was climbing. I knew from my family history that I was going to become a Type II diabetic,

have heart disease and/or cancer, or have a stroke within the next five years. At the time, I weighed 215 with 33% body fat. I started working out twice a week, and eventually expanded that to five days a week. I didn't change any of my other habits yet, so I actually gained five more pounds over the next year. The only thing that improved was my cardiovascular fitness and my blood pressure. l I started tracking all of my food and drinks which finally opened my eyes. I began a daily habit of tracking every single calorie, using an app that helped me calculate my daily calorie need to drop 1-1/2 pounds a week. Over the next ten months, I got down to 155 pounds and 16% body fat. Here's where the real work began. That's where you weigh what you should but you're carrying around too much fat. I began lifting weights three days a week and doing cardio another three days. I shifted my food focus to protein, with the calories needed to maintain my weight. Over the next year, I gained ten pounds of muscle and lost five pounds of fat. I'm now 160 pounds at 11% body fat. I set a goal and I got there. What are your goals? Here's a really interesting study that outlines the truth about calories and weight loss.

In this study a group of women exercised on a treadmill until they burned a set number of calories (the researchers knew what the number was, but the women did not). After they were done exercising, the women were asked to guess how many calories they burned during the workout.

Shockingly, the researchers found that the women OVERESTIMATED how many calories they burned by 300 to 400%!

This alone was a great finding, but check out what happened next...

Once the women were done exercising, they were then instructed to go into another room where there was a buffet-style dinner set up.

The women were instructed to try to eat the same amount of calories that they had just burned during the workout.

So if you were in this study and had just finished burning 500 calories on the treadmill, the scientists would take you to a room with a buffet and ask you to do your best to eat as close to 500 calories as possible.

Get ready, because the results are shocking...

The subjects ate double to triple the amount of calories that they had previously burned during exercise!

This is worth repeating... DOUBLE to TRIPLE!

And this is just one study, but there are dozens just like it.

Research consistently shows that we are very poor at estimating calories. We constantly overestimate how many we burn working out, and underestimate how many we eat.

When left to eat as we please, our mind and body will try and convince us to overcompensate and eat more than we need.

This is why diet and exercise often fail for so many people.

If a diet is too restrictive or too intrusive on your life, then it is already doomed to do poorly.

When you add in the fact that we overestimate how many calories we burn during exercise, and underestimate how many calories we eat AFTER exercise, you can see how people can very easily end up in a positive calorie balance and actually gain weight while dieting.

I have to lose 40 more pounds before I reach my goal but I have full confidence in my above mentioned team!
This is the easiest diet I have ever followed.

Have you ever found yourself doubting you could ever lose weight? I was there multiple times before I figured out the secret to lasting weight loss.

I'm 5'11" and at my heaviest I weighed 255 pounds. I managed to diet down to 185 over a two year period using WW. That weight lasted about a year and then it crept back up to 225 before I lost it again back down to 185. It crept back up and stayed around 215 for the longest time.

I tried to lose and I'd be successful for about 10 pounds and then I put them back on again. Over and over, I would yo-yo between 205 and 215. I thought about liposuction and decided against that after some disgusting research on the topic. I tried everything except the "right" thing.

Working out at a high intensity helped my heart and lowered my blood pressure, but it didn't help me lose weight. I ran 16 marathons and gained weight during every single training season. So working out is valuable but not the answer.

Finally, I had enough! I started tracking all of my calories in/calories out and was extremely disciplined about it. I tracked every single calorie I consumed and I was shocked about how much I was eating. But it was only by seeing the true picture that I was able to get a better picture.

In only 10 months, I lost 60 pounds and weighed 155. Now, two years later, I weigh 160 but that's an added 10 pounds of muscle minus another five pounds of fat loss. I'm happy at this weight but I'm still trying to improve my body composition. I now know I can keep this weight for the rest of my life.
