We try to bypass our emotions because emotions are too

What emotions are, are human.
Mammalian.
Part of us, whether we want them or not.

My dog has emotions. She uses them to express herself.
I communicate with her using emotions.

I communicate with my humans using emotions too.

And I feel deeply, because I know that is my job. As a human.
They are here to teach me.
They are not here to ruin my life.

Imagine a life with no emotion.
No sadness, anger, guilt, shame.
But also no happiness, excitement, thrill, hope.

We can't bypass our emotions.
And I think if we could, we wouldn't want to.

They are here to teach us.
There is no bypassing those lessons.
We either accept them and learn,
or we ignore them and they wait beneath the surface for a second, third, fourth, tenth chance to teach us.

They teach us to feel.
And you could spend your whole life ignoring that lesson.
But if you ignore the hurt, anger, and grief,
you will feel pain, anxiety, and dysfunction.
You will still feel, it just won't be what you want.

Or you will become numb. To even the good parts.

You have to feel emotions to heal them.
And once you heal them,
you will feel peace.

I put my hands on other people every day.
Bodies that hold a lot of tension.
My goal is to help them release the tension
and if possible, remove the cause of tension.

I'm a gentle practitioner.
I believe our bodies are instinctive and smart.
With gentle guidance, we can make a big impact.

My profession is known for non-gentle words: crack, pop, drop, stuck.
But a gentle touch is incredibly effective.

A light touch is all that is needed to shift the nervous system of a baby.
"But babies don't have tension."
They do.
What they don't have is societal programming.

Bodies with a lot of tension become numb.
The input into the system from tense muscles, fascia, and organ walls is stifling to the nerve energy.

So the body decreases the awareness from those sources.
It numbs itself to ignore that information.
To minimize overwhelm.

I meet these bodies every day.
Our programming is that we need tough, outside intervention to battle the tough, outside stress we feel.

But healing is done within.

Those walls put up to keep out the bad feelings, also keep out the good.
The body becomes numb.

We crave to feel. So we allow pain.
The only acceptable feeling.
Outside pain tells us we still have the ability to feel. See? It's working.
But the inside is still numb. See the tension? It came back.

A gentle touch requires the body to listen. To feel.
It requires awareness that the numbness keeps out.
It asks the body to look within. To notice what is there.

Yes, the stress we feel comes from the outside.
But it reacts with what is already inside.

To create change, we must allow the inside to heal.
Gently.

Relax everything that just tightened up reading that.

Woof.

Let go of control? C’mon Becca. Get real.

I get it. Control might be what’s holding you together.

I’m telling you gently, control is an illusion.

You don’t have control over the people in your life.

Or time.
Weather.
The internet.
The past.
The future.
The choices of others (even your own children).

The illusion of control you cling to that feels like it’s managing your anxious thoughts, is actually making them worse.

So breath deep…and let it go.

It’s not all scary! You do have some control.
Over your thoughts.
Choices.
Health decisions.
What you put in and on your body.
How you spend your time.
How you feel about your emotions and memories.
How you move your body.
Your sleep habits.

There’s a lot you can control.

I recommend letting go of the impossible (control over others’ thoughts and actions) and begin to control what you have control over — yourself.

What do you want to change in your life? What parts do you play in the current situation? What choices do you currently make that you can alter so your outcome is more aligned with your wants and needs?

Take a deep breath…and let the awareness come.

What parameters do you use to assess your wellness?

Is it that you just don’t feel bad/achy/pain/sick?

Or is it that you feel amazing, have energy, get great sleep, feel confident in your ability to manage stress, are happy in your relationships, feel excited for the future, and know that if something knocks you off course, you know how to get yourself back quickly?

There’s no right or wrong way to live. But there could be goals you have that are eluding you for reasons that are easily (and quickly) changeable.

A great place to start is to find someone who will take the time to get to know you and use their knowledge and skills to help you create the wellness life you crave.

If someone hasn’t told you today, you don’t have to live a life walking a tightrope over the pit of despair. And the only thing holding you back from a life of ease are the parts of yourself that feel impossible to control.

There are a few ways to unpack stress with NET. The way we approach conscious mental stress that we are aware of is through Mind-Entry.

To begin Mind-Entry NET, we create a sentence that starts with “I’m OK” followed by whatever it is you want to be true.

Sometimes it’s being ok with positive things like getting healthy, feeling strong, making money, falling in love.

Sometimes it’s being ok with hard things like loss, growth, change, disappointment.

The point of being ok with it all is to feel neutral about it. To diffuse the highly charged emotions and make way for peace and calm.

Being ok with making money won’t take away from your excitement or motivation and it makes room for calm, rational thought so you can do the right things to make that money.

Being ok with loss will help process your grief, fear, and sadness, while accepting even though you don’t like it, you can’t change it. You can only change the way you feel about it.

I will be sharing “I’m Ok” Statements that patients have worked through in real sessions to illustrate the variety of topics we cover in NET sessions and how versatile the Neuro Emotional Technique is.
