Sometimes the person seeking treatment for Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) is almost guaranteed to fail in an outpatient setting because of the environment they must return to everyday. Other family members are using, selling (both) and may be openly hostile to the person in treatment. Sometimes the entire neighborhood is a trigger to return to using. Residential treatment can be the safe-haven to help someone establish a solid base of abstinence and early recovery. The laws limiting residential treatment for medicaid recipients to 16 beds or less has got to change.
