Play Well. Live Well. Bee Well! Shannon’s Story + the Birth of Bee Well Pediatrics:
BEE WELL PEDIATRICS·WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19, 2019·
In 2004, I graduated from the Yale School of Nursing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and was recruited by Cincinnati Children’s Diabetes Center. After the birth of my first daughter, I left the hospital and joined a small but busy private practice and re-focused on primary care pediatrics. During this time, I noticed a huge need for a different model of care that focused on the root cause of illness and not just symptom management with multiple medications. Shannon Haury, RN, MSN, PNP

After 7 years in Primary Care and the birth of my third daughter, I realized that I wanted to learn more and create a better approach to my medical practice. I wanted a model that embraced the idea of total health, that allowed for a relationship between provider, patient and family and the time to explore their lifestyle, relationships, and illnesses. The current system does not allow for this unique yet important approach to health and wellness. I then found Integrative Medicine and began to immerse myself in this profound model of medicine that I had envisioned since I was young. I became a Certified Integrative Health Coach, read as much as I could get my hands on, attended an intensive workshop with top Integrative Pediatrician, Lawrence Rosen, and ultimately the idea of Bee Well Pediatrics was born. As a busy mother of three girls (13yrs, 10yrs and 5yrs), I understand the needs for total wellness care with a more natural approach, and believe it is more important than ever to create a foundation for our children and families that is healthy in body, mind and spirit. Bee Well Pediatrics has a mission to deliver high quality, patient and family centered, integrative pediatric care to infants, children, and young adults.

In the last two weeks and certainly over the weekend, spring allergens are the n the RISE!!
Here are my general allergy recommendations:

I recommend reducing exposures as much as possible but still living life! Remove clothing that has been outside, wash hands, wash hair before going to bed. This keeps you from re-exposing yourself all through the night as well.
Use the Xlear saline nasal spray regularly 4-6 times per day and definitely prior to going outside and when coming back inside for the day. This keeps the nasal passages moist & clear and doesn’t allow the allergens to trigger more allergenic reactions. Allergens are highest starting in the evening as well as early morning hours, so closing the windows overnight in the bedrooms as well.
Eating small daily doses of locally produced RAW seasonal honey (for those over 1yr of age) can help desensitize our allergies as well.
Additionally, making sure you’re getting enough Omega3 fatty acids from a fish oil supplement and/or eating salmon, flaxseeds, or walnuts.

When the above isn’t enough and you need to treat depends a little on what symptoms you are having and to what degree. If you’re kind of getting the normal allergy symptoms - sneezing, itchy nose, throat, ears, eyes, etc Borion’s Allergy Calm (homeopathy) can be very helpful with symptom management. If you’re finding that you need to give this often, you may find an herbal supplement helps that contains Quercetin, Stinging nettle, bromelain , N-acetyl cystein, vitamin C - my favorite is Ortho Molecular’s DHistJr for kiddos and regular DHist for those 12 yrs and older.
Finally histamine management with the BioRay NDF Calm can help support liver & adrenals in detoxing as well. Similarly Gentle Warriors Firefighter can help calm respiratory inflammation triggered by allergies.
