I want to share with you all that I recently discovered a new passion that relates to healing -- reducing the risks of toxic chemicals in the lives of us, our families, and our pets.
After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, I've been searching for beauty, personalcare, and cleaning products that are free of toxic chemicals. Also, I've been making DIY products for my home and pets that are free of toxic chemicals. I’m thrilled to find beauty products without toxic chemicals — Beautycounter and Espana. I plan to educate people and dog breeders about this topic via words, maybe a blog, writing articles to be published, and promoting products that augment your ability to avoid toxic chemicals.
My other major passions persist: breeding & showing Bichons and Portuguese Water Dogs, healing primarily dogs, being a Canine Nurse Midwife, and gourmet cooking.
FYI: The potential consequences of exposure to toxic chemicals include cancer, birth defects, damage to major organs (brain, liver, kidneys, lungs), autoimmune diseases, skin problems, allergies, endocrine disruption (primarily thyroid and reproductive hormones), dementia, ADHD in children, fertility issues, and harm to the immune system.
We are all exposed to toxic chemicals via our beauty/personal care products (thousands of chemicals that are absorbed into the skin of people and pets), lawn fertilizers & w**d killers, foods that are not organic or GMO, some fabrics on furniture, air pollution, cleaning products, some pet toys, vaccinations, and even our tap water. See this website for more information: https://www.ewg.org

What you can do to avoid potential consequences of toxic synthetic chemicals: Eat clean and organic foods, avoid chemical-laden processed foods, drink plenty of filtered water, be knowledgeable of the >1400 synthetic chemicals present in many products, read labels of beauty and cleaning products prior to purchase, avoid using products containing toxic chemicals, avoid applying toxins to your lawn where kids and pets play, and contact your legislators to enact laws for FDA to limit chemicals in our beauty products.
My main hope is that increasing your awareness of the risks of toxic chemicals in our lives may prevent a pet, child or adult from contracting cancer in the future.
