Spine surgery is done to prevent further/permanent nerve damage (and the damage downstream to the organs and tissues that result from nerve damage) NOT for spine pain. The reality is you may have MORE spine pain as a result of the surgery even if the surgery was done correctly and successfully removed the nerve pain.
While improvements in after the fact surgical methods are noble, we must strive for a culture of PREVENTION. Proper biomechanics, early and effective post trauma rehab and regular check ups that include imaging for early detection of degenerative changes for less invasive interventions REGARDLESS of symptoms should be our collective goal!
