WANT A COPY OF MY RESILIENCE SPEECH - see below:
When asked to speak to a 6th-12th grade group of leaders, I felt the best topic would be the science of resilience. I gave them two takeaways below:
1. Be anti-fragile. In a volatile, dynamic environment you don't want to be stamped "Fragile" or you will get broken. At this Christian school, Christ lives in you. As a result, you have an unfair advantage and should go through life with a superiority complex. In every encounter, it's 2 against 1 and that extra person is the General of God's Angel Army. In the Bible, 1 angel took out 185,000 soldiers and Jesus said He could call down 12 legions (72,000) angels.
2. Narrate your story redemptively. Christ redeems us from our circumstances and promises not to abandon you or fail to deliver you into your promised land. "All things work together for good for those who love God and have been called according to His purposes." Nothing is happening to you, it is happening for you. God is calling you from the future to the future and aligning events on your behalf. So the question isn't "What's happening to me?" The question is always, "What is God doing for me?"
It's better to be 1 and 20 than 0 and 0- Live without fear, get in the game: FEAR never started a business, hit the winning basket, got the great job, wrote a best-selling book, asked out the girl of its dreams, or made a positive difference in the world."
God tells us 365 times in the Bible not to fear. Once for every day and you'll need it. He knew courage was not being unafraid, courage was being afraid and doing it anyway because you know He is with you....
