FIRST CITRUS MANDATORY EVACUATION ORDER ISSUED
A mandatory evacuation has been ordered for all residents in Citrus County living in campers, mobile homes, manufactured homes, or structures unable to withstand sustained winds of up to 110 mph. The evacuation order will take effect Tuesday, October 8, at 8 a.m.
Officials urge residents to prepare immediately as the stormโs path remains uncertain with a 100-mile degree of error, reminding everyone not to focus solely on Tampa Bay as the potential impact zone. The evacuation order is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of residents in vulnerable housing.
Shelters will open Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the following locations:
Central Ridge Elementary School (General Population) 185 West Citrus Springs Blvd., Citrus Springs, FL 34434
Citrus High School (General Population) 600 West Highland Blvd., Inverness, FL 34452
Forest Ridge Elementary School (Special Needs) 2927 North Forest Ridge Blvd., Hernando, FL 34442
Renaissance Center (Pet-Friendly) 3630 W Educational Path, Lecanto, FL 34461
Transportation Assistance:
Citrus County Transit is offering free transportation to shelters or other safe locations within the county. Residents in need of transportation are encouraged to call (352) 527-7630 to schedule a ride.
Officials stress that residents in the evacuation zone should not wait until the last minute and should take action to ensure their safety before the storm arrives.
