This is a big deal because their national conferences are usually on the east coast and I've never been able to attend one. Articles about the new food pyramid are everywhere.

I first became aware of the food pyramid in 7th grade, which led to my first trial of food tracking with a friend to try to be "healthy." This would have been in roughly 1994.

The pyramid has gone through more than a few changes since then.

Here are my first thoughts on the 2026 food pyramid: I like the focus on vegetables, fiber, protein, and "healthy" fat as the base of the pyramid with an emphasis on limiting sugar and processed foods. Great stuff here. I don't think you need to get your fat and protein from animal products. Plant based diets are awesome. There is no reason for someone who is successful as a vegetarian or vegan to change what they're doing based on this. As for the statements about saturated and unsaturated fats, I want to do my own review of the science before commenting on these statements. Nutrition is super important in heart health. I'm hoping my current read will shed some light here.
