Here's another article on Eli Lilly's new pill Foundayo. Something I forgot to point out in my last post, Foundayo does not need to be taken fasting which provides more flexibility than Wegovy pill which some people may appreciate.

The daily pill called Foundayo got a fast track through the Food and Drug Administration. It will compete with the pill form of Wegovy as an alternative to obesity drugs given by injection.

The concept of “prediabetes” may be on its way out. Some experts are proposing a shift to staging type 2 diabetes instead, arguing that the current label can be misleading and may delay more proactive treatment. Novo Nordisk announced nearly simultaneously that they are moving to a subscription program for both the Wegovy pen and pill. This may offer financial benefits to some people but there are a lot of details that need to be understood. It is being offered first to the patients of various telehealth programs like WeightWatchers.

Not an April Fools joke, Eli Lilly announced release of their oral GLP1 medication orforglipron, now known by it's sexy brand name Foundayo. (Tim and I are already working on our own jingle, thank you) The new weight loss pill is currently priced at $150 per month when purchased through LillyDirect, which is competitive with the Wegovy pill also priced at $150 through NovoCare and GoodRx. There are no head to head studies between the two medicines. Foundayo's study suggests a maximum weight loss of about 11%. Wegovy pill's study suggests a maximum weight loss of about 12%.

The FDA approval of Eli Lilly's GLP-1 pill Foundayo comes nearly three months after Novo Nordisk's oral version of Wegovy hit the market.

Measles is spreading in our community. It is important to remain up to date on potential exposures. This is the best and most reliable tool to stay up to date on the spread of the disease in our community. If you think you have measles, go to the emergency department immediately BUT call on your way so you do not sit in the waiting room. Measles is highly contagious. The most recent exposure event occurred in the Providence Portland Emergency Department where a contagious person sat in the waiting room for 3 hours.

We can't talk about colon cancer screening without talking about fiber! Fiber and "fibermaxxing" is having a moment in social media I think and I'm glad for it. Nutrition isn't just about eating enough protein. Fiber reduces the risk for colon cancer, reduces cholesterol levels, reduces blood sugar levels and insulin resistance, and promotes health of the gut microbiome. Sitting down to figure out how to increase my own fiber intake, I was surprised to find it isn't just about eating a salad with every meal. Fiber comes in lots of yummy and ready options.
