Thank you to everyone who set up or participated in yesterday's Interfaith Prayer Service in Clairton. It shows great optimism for the future of Clairton that so many people of different faiths came together as one community. Faith should never be a source of division as long as we have love and compassion in common.

Each person at the service lit a candle and dropped a prayer card into a basket—symbolic acts meant to honor the victims and offer hope for a town still reeling.

One week after the Clairton Plant explosion, the Clairton community is expected to hold a prayer service to honor victims and support plant workers.

Our hearts go out to the friends and family of the Clairton Coke Works. I am personally not a Clairton native, but what I am is the daughter of a Steelworker. Generations of my family have worked at, and some still work at the steel mill in Butler. One of my earliest memories is when I was 5 years old, on December 3rd, my Mom told me there was an explosion at the mill and Dad was hurt. My Dad came home that night with only broken ribs; yesterday, someone’s Dad did not come home. Every steelworker and their family knows in the back of their mind the danger of working in a mill. Every steelworker continues to go to work because they do so for love, the love of providing for their family.

Without the steel industry, our communities would not exist. I acknowledge the hardships that every steelworker endures, and how important every single one of them is to our community. Please remember to show your compassion and respect to our steelworkers. Not just today, or next week, but for generations to come.

Prayers to all the employees and first responders at the US Steel Clairton Coke Works. We hope that you all make it home safe. It's terrible to see something like this occur, but most especially in our community where we all have friends, family and neighbors impacted by this event.

A mass casualty incident has been declared to allow for additional EMS resources from across the region to respond.

We at Finney's want to make you aware that, while honoring your loved ones, some practices are detrimental to wildlife. Most notably balloon releases and lantern releases have devastating effects on unsuspecting animals. We encourage you to consider more environmentally safe alternatives such as a butterfly release, planting flowers, or blowing bubbles. We enclosed a list of 10 recommended alternatives, but let us know if you have any environmentally friendly ideas to share.

We will be experiencing an Extreme Heat Watch starting Sunday. Please be safe, and please check on friends, neighbors and pets. Some of us are in sensitive groups that are at a much higher risk of succumbing to heat due to age, illness or medications. Make a plan, and make a point of looking out for each other.
