Amy Smith Hamel, PTA, B.S. Healthcare Management
APTA Geriatrics Delegate & PTA Council Representative
Amy Smith Hamel is a dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant with nearly 30 years of experience in clinical care, healthcare management, and professional advocacy. She holds an Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapist Assisting from Wallace State Community College and a Bachelorโs degree in Healthcare Management from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Amy currently serves as Delegate and PTA Council Representative for APTA Geriatrics, where she plays an active role in shaping national policy and advancing geriatric physical therapy practice. Her work in this role reflects her long-standing commitment to excellence in geriatric care and her passion for elevating the voice of PTAs within the profession.
In addition to her national service, Amy is the Regional Director at Restore Therapy, overseeing the operations of multiple sub-acute rehabilitation and outpatient clinics. She also holds the APTA Geriatric Advanced Proficiency certification, further underscoring her clinical expertise in serving older adults.
Amyโs involvement with APTA spans both state and national levels. Within the Alabama Chapter, she has held multiple leadership positions including Membership Committee Chair, PTA Special Interest Group Officer, PTA Representative at Large, Public Relations Committee Member, and Chapter Council Member. Nationally, she is the former PTA Caucus Chief Delegate and a past member of the APTA Public Policy and Advocacy Committee.
Through her leadership and service, Amy continues to be a strong advocate for geriatric care, policy development, and the advancement of Physical Therapist Assistants across the country.
