Alzheimer’s and dementia risk can be reduced by paying attention to certain lifestyle changes such as having vision and hearing checked and addition to seeing a primary care doctor.
🧠 According to Dr. Michele Longo, an associate professor of neurology, there are ways we can change our lifestyle to reduce the risk of dementia.
🧠Lack of education especially in early life, hearing loss and vision loss can all contribute to the risk of dementia.
🧠 Modifying cardiovascular risk factors, by staying active, controlling diabetes and hypertension, smoking cessation, maintaining a healthy weight and avoiding excess alcohol are all modifiable risk factors in midlife that can reduce the risk of dementia.
🧠Staying social and treating mood and mental health disorders as we age is also key.
