Her husband was also under our care in the past, which makes Donna feel like family to us. We invite you to listen to her heartfelt story and the wonderful experiences she’s had at our center.

We had the most amazing and informative Bee Class from one of our very own residents' son, Gary Winebarger, and his wife, Hilda. Gary is a master Beekeeper, and his wife is a certified Beekeeper. Gary and Hilda are members of the Catawba Valley Beekeepers' Association, of which Gary serves as President. They have been in the bee business for about 15 years.
They both volunteer at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, where they have an amazing Bee exhibit.
Gary is one of several who teach Bee classes in Catawba County and the class is an 8-week course. From time to time, you can hear Gary and Hilda on our local radio station talking about bees.
Gary and Hilda can be seen at the Catawba County Fair, State Fair, and the Mountain Fair with their Bee Observatory, answering questions and teaching all about Bees. They also go to schools and 4H events. We even got to experience the Queen Bee lay an egg (she is marked with a yellow dot) in the observatory during their visit.
The residents and staff truly enjoyed this most amazing activity.

Making homemade buttermilk biscuits from scratch for our cooking class was a big hit! It was even better eating those hot biscuits fresh from the oven with butter and honey!
We were gearing up for World Honeybee Day.

CVAL School Spirit Week!
We had staff dress up like the year they graduated High School and the residents had to guess the year. Can you guess the year?
The resident made collages of the year they graduated from High School. We went through magazines, cut out images, used some scrapbooking items, and some colorful clip art prints.
We discussed first jobs in high school, pay, fashion, food, curfews, first crushes, cars, parents, siblings, and music.
The question of "What advice would you give your younger self today?" brought a very deep discussion to all.
We had an awesome time with our crafts and discussions and OH, the stories!

Duunn, Dunn, Duunn, Dunn, Duunn, Dunn.........
We ended Shark Week with red velvet shark cupcakes and the shark fin pose! Even our administrator, Anna, enjoyed one of those delicious shark cupcakes!
AND watching "Jaws" the movie was the icing on the cupcake!
