The OR nursing team at APD hosted certification exam prep sessions in January for nurses preparing for the Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) and Certified Ambulatory Peri Anesthesia Nurse (CAPA) exams.

Nurses from across the system joined the sessions, including those from Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and Clinics (including the Outpatient Surgery Center), Valley Regional Hospital, New London Hospital, and Concord Hospital in Laconia.

Support from System Chief Nursing Executive Sue Reeves, EdD, RN, CENP, and DHMC Vice President of Perioperative and Surgical Services Stacey Cosco, DNP, MM, RN, NEA-BC, helped make these learning opportunities possible.

Last week, we cut the ribbon at our new Claremont Addiction Treatment Program (ATP). Part of Valley Regional Hospital. The opening of this facility marks an important step in our mission to improve community health through accessible services and treatment for substance use disorder (SUD).

“Many people living with addiction recover when they have timely access to science-supported care,” said William Torrey, MD, chair of psychiatry at Dartmouth Health. “Recovery from SUD takes human connection and the support of community. That is why I am so excited today to be with the community that has gathered to celebrate the opening of the Claremont ATP.”

Our addiction services department launched in 2006, in the early days of the use of the medication buprenorphine to treat opioid misuse. Expansion of this program into the Claremont area allows improved access to area residents receiving treatment for SUD, who often have limited means of transportation.

A strong connection between caregivers and patients can greatly improve outcomes and patient satisfaction. At Valley Regional, our caregivers are a part of the community they serve—and that connection drives them.

Victoria Johnson, pediatric nurse practitioner, shares: “Sharing cultural and lived experiences with the families I serve allows me to build trust and provide compassionate, effective care. Practicing here feels like a full-circle commitment to the community that shaped me.”

Let’s recognize our caregivers, like Victoria, with a gift or a message in their honor: https://dhgeiselgiving.org/honor-caregiver-share-now
