For the last of , we want to ensure it's known that everyone is susceptible to skin cancer.

❌ Myth: "Tan or dark-skinned people don't get skin cancer."
✅ Truth: Skin cancer doesn’t only affect light-skinned people; in fact, the skin cancer death rates are higher in darker-skinned people, as it is often diagnosed later, at a more advanced stage, when it's too late. People of all skin colors, including people who are African American, Hispanic, or Asian, or people who have a "base-tan" are not immune and should actively practice sun safety.

The sun will come out tomorrow… but you still need sunscreen today! This for , we debunk the belief that sun protection is not needed outside of sunny, summer days.

❌ Myth: "You don't need sun protection in the winter or on a cloudy day."
✅ Truth: You should protect your skin from UV radiation even when it is not warm or sunny. Harmful UV rays are present year-round and can reach your skin and cause damage even through clouds.

There is nothing more uncomfortable than a sunburn, right? Well, just 5 or more sunburns DOUBLES a person's risk for melanoma. Thats right, the largest risk factor of skin cancer is exposure to UV rays and a lack of sun protection. Always remember to apply that SPF year-round in correlation with protective clothing - prevention is important for everyone!

Our second for reviews skin cancer risk factors.

❌ Myth: "Only sun exposure causes skin cancer."
✅ Truth: While sun exposure is the primary cause of skin cancer, UV radiation exposure from tanning beds or occupational equipment, a family history or other genetic factors, older age, a weakened immune system, or even body characteristics like fair skin, freckles, and multiple moles could all be potential causes of skin cancer.

Ready for summertime? First, don't let these myths fool you...

❌ Myth: "Only older people get skin cancer."
✅ Truth: While it may feel like it at times, your skin is not invincible when you're young! Prevention is important at ANY age. The younger you are exposed to the sun, especially if you experience sunburns at a young age, the higher your risk for getting skin cancer in life. Melanoma is the most common form of cancer in young adults 25-29 and the second most common for 15-29 year olds.
