The Children's Research Foundation

The Children's Research Foundation CRF has been an all volunteer foundation since its inception over 50 years ago. Our funding process:
Doctors submit grant proposals to our board of directors.

Children's Research Foundation (CRF) is a non-profit organization chartered by the states of Illinois and Indiana to support medical research in the diseases of children. How it all began:
In 1956, two mothers met in the corridor of Bobs Roberts Children's Hospital (now part of University of Chicago Comer Children's Hospital), drawn together by common concern, as their two small daughter were both

seriously ill. They turned to their pediatrician, Dr. Mila Pierce, an outstanding researcher in leukemia, for guidance in helping others in similar circumstances. Dr. Pierce helped these parents to see that only through research can war be waged against fatal childhood diseases. So these concerned parents, some of whom had lost children, formed the Children's Research Foundation. This unique group channeled their grief to constructive effort, that others might live. Grants are awarded to the proposals that best support the goal of CRF. These grants may assist in the purchase of laboratory equipment, medicines, and specimens. Examples of research that doctors from Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago and Children's Memorial Hospital have investigated include the following:

Brain and respiratory functions
Causes and treatments of childhood cancers
Diseases of the immune system
Endocrine and glandular dysfunctions
Fetal development
Neonatal research
Viruses and viral infections
