🌿 August is National Wellness Month! 🌿

At Clarion Wellness and Rehabilitation, we believe senior health deserves attention all year long, but August gives us the perfect excuse to put an extra spotlight on it. Wellness is so much more than just “staying healthy.” For seniors, it’s about movement, connection, joy, and having the support to live their very best lives.

What is National Wellness Month?
It’s a celebration of self-care, healthy habits, and overall well-being. And that means so much for older adults! Wellness isn’t a one-size-fits-all plan, it’s about finding what works for each unique person, no matter their abilities or limitations.

💪 Physical Wellness – Staying active, even in small ways, can strengthen the body and mind. Just 20 minutes of daily movement, like a chair workout or stroll outdoors can boost heart health, mobility, and mood.

🧠 Mental Wellness – Keep the brain sharp with puzzles, crosswords, or even video games! For those with memory concerns, engaging activities can help slow cognitive decline and spark joy.

💬 Emotional & Social Wellness – Connection matters. Whether it’s chatting with friends, visiting family, or enjoying time with a beloved pet, social interaction can lower anxiety, lift spirits, and create a true sense of belonging.

This month, let’s start the conversation: What would wellness look like for YOU or the seniors in your life? It might be trying a new hobby, joining a group, enjoying nature, or simply being heard and valued.

✨ 4 Simple Ways for Seniors to Boost Wellness This Month:

Move in ways that work for you – Adapt exercises to your comfort level.

Stay social – Join a group, volunteer, or make time for visits.

Eat for health and happiness – Add colorful fruits and veggies to your plate.

Try something new – A new activity, outing, or even a new recipe can spark joy.

This August, let’s celebrate the strength, wisdom, and vibrance of our seniors—because wellness isn’t just about adding years to life, it’s about adding life to those years.

Originally from Uba, Wisconsin, Judy Steenblock made her way to Iowa in 1952 and grew up in Belmond, where she later graduated high school. A proud mother of four sons; Mark, John, Dan, and Scott, Judy's family has grown to include 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

A lifelong music lover, Judy had her own band called Cabin Fever and has some impressive musical memories, she once met Loretta Lynn during her touring days and even opened for Tim McGraw in Mason City. Her love for country music still runs strong!

Judy spent 17 years at Casey’s, where she was well known for making delicious pizzas. When she's not reminiscing about her music days, you’ll likely find her enjoying her favorite hobbies: gardening and listening to music.

We're lucky to have such a vibrant and talented woman in our community!
