Hands with Heart

Hands with Heart Through gentle touch, and the powerful use of our minds, the client and I work together to heal phys This life altering event changed my life in many ways.

As a former registered nurse, I am fully aware of the wonderful advances of modern medicine. Like most people, I have been the recipient of standard medical care and respect the wonderful things it has to offer. In 2010, I was struck by an oncoming vehicle while walking my dog. One of the more positive things that came out of this event was my interest and respect for healing work. Over the next

few years, I broadened my education to include certifications in the following: Healing Touch, hypnosis, and Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP). Through gentle touch, and the powerful use of our minds, the client and I work together to heal physical, emotional, mental and spiritual issues.

Here is a heroic and encouraging story of a mother (and her husband) who - in the usual circumstances - would have been told that she just "couldn't breastfeed". And yet, here she is, in this photo starting to breastfeed using a lactation aid at the breast and as of today, she is breastfeeding her 3 months old exclusively.

Her baby was born via cesarean section, and both the mother and the father got to spend time skin to skin with the baby and her baby latched on and started breastfeeding beautifully. On the fifth day postpartum, the mother experienced fever, chills, excruciating pain under her right rib, all of which sent her to the emergency room where she spent the next 12 hours waiting to be seen. She was admitted to the ICU and diagnosed with pulmonary embolism.

Her husband was sent home to take care of an exclusively breastfed 5 day old. Thanks to his determination and care, the baby never got bottles or a pacifier which made it much easier for the mother to get back to breastfeeding. But not just as yet.

The mother got septic and her liver and pancreas were failing and all her blood work was off the charts. She spent the following 21 days fighting for her life, without her baby and lost her milk supply completely. At that point she was diagnosed with fluid in her abdomen and underwent emergency surgery with 600 ml of fluid being drained from her abdomen.

Finally, when she recovered and was allowed to go home, she wanted to re-start breastfeeding. She got the baby to latch on to the breast with the help of a lactation aid to supplement and she worked on increasing her milk supply. As her milk supply increased, she began to use the lactation aid less and less and finally, she is now 3 months postpartum and her baby is exclusively breastfed without any supplementation.

You can read more about the amazing things that can be done to help women breastfeed in both the usual and unusual circumstances in my eBook called Breastfeeding: Empowering Parents: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FS6K9SF
