There are also potential effects that epidurals have on the baby. Dr. Sarah Buckley writes, “Although findings are not consistent, possible problems, such as rapid breathing in the first few hours and vulnerability to low blood sugar, suggest that these drugs have measurable effects on the newborn baby.”
