May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Let's raise awareness, break the stigma, and change the way we speak about Mental Health.
Mental health is a gauge of our overall well-being.
When it is good, we are better able to cope with the daily stresses of life.
However, when it's not good it significantly impacts our physical health by influencing stress responses and over-activating our nervous system. This leads to inflammation, weakened immunity, sleep issues, and increased risk of chronic diseases. And that's on top of the shame, triggers, dissociation, and negative emotions and thought patterns we might be experiencing.
Mental Health is not "all in your head."
Mental Health is Health!
And we really need to end the stigma and shaming that comes when someone speaks up about their struggles.
